Thanks for the comments. I can see how his legs look a little pointy once he shifts positions.
The animation was drawn in Graphics Gale. I did a layer of mouse-drawn sketch and then drew a layer for the head, chest, arms, legs, and backpack. Using GG's layers makes the whole thing much easier.
I like the cartoony swinging style animation part, but when he's facing right , the entire shirt shading turns into an inconsistent, pillowy shading style. Anatomy wise, A guy couldn't turn like that when hes on his knees, I know its cartoon-styled, but when he instantly slides while semi-crouching, it kinda annoys me.
"Everytime you use Kazaa, a metallica band member dies a little."
Quote Jonathon Smeby.
I actually like the shading on his shirt while he turns. and its definitly not inconsistant. I think he did a good job and should be happy for what he has done.
It doesnt matter to me how he turns(if his bones or anatomy wise or whatever)it looks smooth and it definetly does not annoy me.
"Listen, real poetry doesn't say anything, it just ticks off the possibilities. Opens all doors. You can walk through any one that suits you."
To explain the animation's movement: He is supposed to be simultaneously crouching downward by bending his knees forward and spinning on the tips of his foot. Think of a pivot-step in basketball. While not the most realistic motion, this is only my second or third animation and I am relatively happy with the results.
I just picked up 'The Animators Survival Kit' by Richard Williams. Awesome book for anyone interested in animation.
I'd like to see the transition from stopped to walking/running animations. I start having a rough time with animating my sprites when it comes down to high detailed work, myself.
When the character runs he holds the gun with two hands pointed forward and it bobs up and down with each step. This is my way of allowing the run animation to still fire and look allright.
I am working on a giant mech character right now and will post that as well as this character's walk animation this weekend.
About the mummy - I scrapped that design I posted to pixelation. It was really rough. There would be more work involved in fixing that mummy than just making a new one.
about that idle animation, id say that he should do it a little more discrete mabye only turning just enough to see behind him.
the animation looks wierd to me but its drawn brilliantly, well done for that.
Cool. Though if you're gonna use him as an avatar, I suggest you crop and resize the thing to a proper square shape.
