im getting pretty tired of all the Zelda engines out there. I would really love to do graphics for a Diablo clone. I know its possible, already tried making an inv, itemdrop engine. different monster AI. like Brute. Blind. HitNRunaway. + mm.
But in aspect i don't know anything about putting the parts together! i don't have a story! so ill need a complete team!
Sounds, Music and Graphics is covered! by me and my sister!
So left is coding, story, and ideamakers..
The best programmer and the story writer will lead this project.. (i don't want to) only knows how to create gfx on command. This should/would be a 1cd project which means a good internet connection actually would be required. Since i worked for blizzard dk on diablo 1. i do have the hand full about cutscenes, bg and character modelling/rendering.
Some ppl may think this would be impossible! but i don't
hard work would be needed yes. But if we succeed this would really put Click Products
into another perspective..
Please mail me on rw2002k@hotmail.com instead of replying here! Im online 24/7 on MSN (not always there, but online)
If u are wondering about my hands can do the gfx try http://warthog.servegame.com/
but only some rescent models there. in gallery section!

(if u don't have a cdrecorder urll get the game from my brother's publishing house afterwards)

In over your head a bit? Possible, yes. Insane, yes. Will it take forever to make, yes. Not to mention you will need a REALLLLY good team. I don't think I'm that good of programmer for this, but I do have some coding skills. Mabey I can be a side programmer... mabey not? I can do a desent story, and I have a few ideas. I'm just an all around klikker.
Btw, nice graphics.

Hmm....insane project? Not really...quite difficult though. It would be a challenge in every area, and would take forever. You'd need a charismatic leader to keep the team together.
I was wondering which click product you're thinking of using, btw, since with the possible exception of MMF2, Jamagic is the fastest click product. If you want to you can even add the option to use 3D accelleration, which definately speeds up games if someone has a killer video card.(actually, even my GeForce 2 seems to display sprites slightly faster than my 1.7ghz cpu )
And despite not wanting to be the leader...someone has to start, or you'll never get people interested. You'll also need a solid framework or plan for the game(again to get people interested), then can alter it as you go along based on suggestions.
Example:
---Wanted Game Features---
Map Editor?
Spell/Character Editors?
Quest Editor?
or
Random Map Generator?
Iso View/Standard View?
Item Editor
etc, etc,
Personally, I'd love to try my hand at something like this, but I don't know how far I'd get. First off, I've never built an isometric game before. Second, I've also never done pathfinding, so those would be two challenges. If you'd like me to try building an engine I'd be happy to though.
I have done some other things, such as building file, save, and map formats, although I didn't post any of them.
If you're interested in anything I've done, the best work I've posted online would be a beta map editor I made for Outpost2(a Sierra game), since it didn't come with one. You can download it here to take a look:
http://www.kramy.net/projects/Outpost2/Outpost Editor16.zip
I wonder who ever thought to unorganize the tiles for Outpost2 in such a way? Makes a drag-terrain editor impossible. Also, here's some maps incase you don't have the game.
http://www.kramy.net/stuff/Op2Maps.zip
Don't bother looking at the main site though, since I haven't updated it in a while, but based on it you can guess graphics/design isn't my strong point.
Edit: Darn, TDC killed my link because it has a space.
Kramy.. well its sertant its needed to be MMF or JaMagic... i think the project will die to fast with KnP og Games Factory..... Also DarkBasic could be a topic! Im as skilled in lowpoly modelling as in highpoly. worked in both scenarios. So if its gonna be Realtime Lowpoly, or Prerendered... well About me starting a game. I think its bad to write a story and try to force some ppl out in making it. I think its better to join up in an Irc Chan, talk and take notes, gather information and so on. And basicly after ppl have talked for a couple of hours Vote a project leader. That way ppl don't feel as much pushed aside! everyone gets there words out. "Votes To The People" -no racism here
Well i could write some stuff though if its gonna get ppl more interested.
Non Multiplayer
RPG/Adventure Quest/Hack'N'Slash Style
Parts Needing Coding:
Itemdrop Generator
around 20 Dif AI
Isometric Terrain(MAP Loading)
Pathfinding for Enemies
Inventory
Shop(Item Generator again based on lvl)
Save/Load(Only player and quest, inv, stats, waypoints needs saving since like in diablo 2 urll have waypoints and that way monsters respawn except bosses (start in act1 town))
Maploader (each scenario/part of the world should have like 10 dif maps to random choose from)
Unique Items? i love those bastards
A good story divided into acts
Good acts divided into quests
Good Quests divided into subquests
(A way to change players visible sprite based on weapon/shield/armor?)
maybe could be done like in diablo bu using 5 sprites for player (legs/body/head/left equip/right equip)
A good way to calculate rdr attack/block rates in battles
And a last putting it all together!
And ofcource a mapeditor
Hope this helps

It does actually. Although before I promise anything I'll have to see if I can work out an Isometric engine, or if I'll be completely lost and useless.
Map Saving/Loading isn't terribly hard. For every Jamagic engine-test I've done I build my own map format/editor specifically for it. I don't know how to integrate it with isometric though, so before I could do that I'd need to do some experimenting.
Also, what I meant was making the video card do all the 2D processing, leaving the CPU with less of a burden. I don't think Jamagic's 3D engine is efficient enough for great-looking 3D at runtime, but it should still boost 2D sprite display speed quite a chunk(it was a framerate difference of about 20%, which is good for an old card).
I'll be sure to pop on IRC sometime then, although after tommorrow I won't have access to a computer for a few days, so I likely won't be heard from until I do again.
count me in Sanders, Im getting pretty good at top view coding. worked for months making unrelenting2 engin.
altough, I cant use jamigic, only MMF. And I cant do isometric. But I can fix some pathfinding and AI for enemies, maybe also inventory stuff and fix story and quests - not good with all that magic elves mumbo jumbo stuff.
