It may contain other topics like this one. I searched, but I didn't find any decent ones... my apologies if it bothers you.

I don't actually like the Thumbs Up/Down thing. I think that nearly every good looking game should receive a thumb up. I do not vote thumbs down because if the game would have ripped graphics/wierd controls/require multiplayer/some bugs/awful level design etc etc etc...

I think that it should be the same voting as with the articles; 1-5 points, were 3 is an average game, an 1 is an awful game and 5 is a gorgeus game. If not, it would still be better if it just would be like this;

- MEGA Thumb up ... 3+
- SUPER Thumb up ... 2+
- Thumb up ... 1+
- Thumb down ... 1-
- SUPER Thumb down ... 2-
- MEGA Thumb down ... 3-

If for example, someone downloaded a game that contained ripped graphics, but still
was funny and playable, he/she could have voted a good score, but not a very high score. Instead of voting a bad score (that is in this case a "thumb down") because
of ripped graphics.

(So that you know, I just mention ripped graphics because it's a good example of proposing the subject. I don't hate them)

...

Now, is it anyone agreeing about this? Or is it just me?...
By the way, I love TDC and spend alot of time here, but... I just
think this would make it a little better.

It's a good idea, I think. But I like the thumbs up/down system they have right now.

You could write reviews, which are better and give you DC Points (yes, I know, they're worthless, but still...).

I personally hate the thumbs system. I think a rating out of ten would be more suitable. Also, while you are downloading it asks you what you think of the game. How the fug do I know? I haven't played it yet! This means I just vote thumbs up if the screenshots like good. The game might be shit, but I can't be arsed waiting for me to download it, then play it.

Rapidflash: Yeah, but reviews doesn't make any difference when it comes to the top
20 games list. And it's often so few reviews too.

Noodle: I agree 100%.

I have a BETTER idea!

You should be able to buy STOCKS in all these games! The more people
buy stocks, the higher the rating of the game! AND YOU CAN SELL THE STOCKS
AFTER YOU FINISHED THE GAME SO THE RATING WILL GO DOWN AGAIN, HAR HAR HAR!

What's with the STOCKs?! It's getting old now. HAR HAR HAR!

I like the current system, but a rating out of 5 or 10 would be better and more accurate.

Anyone willing to propose this request to an administrator? Or will we just receive the "you should be glad that TDC exists at all" answer? Or... has it already been done several times?

Not a you should be happy TDC is here at all, but I don't see that happening before TDC2 debuts. Coding it into the system would probably take a while, and that while can be better spent on TDC2. So that's the way the system works now, but I'll throw this idea around to a few others and see if it can be implimented into the next version.

Would be highly appreciated if it was fixed.

When will TDC2 be up, you think ..?

If you want to give a game a number score so badly, you could always review it.

The thumb system is good because it's simple. "Is this game crap or not?" Sure, I've been on the fence a few times, but this forces you to make a decision one way or the other. What good does it do to know something you made is a 3 out of 5?

I think it would be better if the game got a 3 out of 5 instead of having 50% thumbs up and 50% thumbs down.

Your suggestion is not bad or stupid at all. However it is not an easy task to decide a fair and useful system. Generally there are not a lot of reviews. Not even every game gets one review. A handful of games will recieve two or more reviews. Reviews are more fair and useful as a measurement since the reviewer has to write why he/she came to that conclusion. The downside is it takes time to write a good review. This may be one of the reasons why members do not write a lot.

Some time ago the thumbs system was introduced. It is an easy way of evaluating a game, but often I find it hard to decide wether to vote up or down. If the game is majorly good or bad can be hard to judge at times. Using the thumbs up system is also an easy way to punish someone you are mad at, but I do not really think it is a serious issue. I agree it is basically useless to ask if the game is good or bad when downloading. I never ever vote at that point. I wait until I have at least played the game a bit. Then I go back and vote. Possibly I could also write a review. It depends on the time I have.

Listing a game based on thumbs up system is both good and bad. The thumbs system may not always show the quality of the game. On the other hand since reviews are so rare they cannot be used as a measurement either.

Maybe the thumbs system could indeed be switched out with eg. the same point system we have for articles. That would allow for a bit more detailed fast reviewing of the games.

Maybe a mini Review?
Using the star rating we have now in the reviews themselves? The only problem was, there were alot of crap reviews before the character minimum was instituted.

And I find the minimum requirement of 1500 characters absolutely acceptable. A good review can easily take up 1500 characters.

However what do you want to do? Try to make members write more reviews? Or how about a TDC review board that reviews games?

The main reason I suggested this is because I want those games which really deserves it to take a place at the top 20 games. That was the main reason. The reviewing system is great, at least to my opinion.

KlikMaster: Ok, but remember that a game can be bad even if it looks good. An example is good graphics + bad coding.

Cybermaze (CrobaSoft): Yeah, I agree, but isn't it best to just download it
if it looks good?

Chris Branch / FireMonkey: I don't think it's "just". Alot o' work!

It's not that hard to change the database, but Clubsoft needs the time to do it. Essentially, you'd just copy the code for the articles and convert the current thumbs up/down data with a small script.

Changing it isnt a proble, but if I change it it means all the current rankings are lost, witch is rather annoying concidering how many votes there are, be a real pain to loose so many statistics

Speaking as a bad artist, I think that you shouldn't even be allowed to vote on a game unless you actually downloaded it.

I think there should be thumbs-up, but no thumbs-down at all. That way, if you actually like a game enough to vote, you'll vote, but if you're indifferent, or a dick who's voting down either to get back at the creator or to make your own game look better, you can't.
The top games are rated by thumbs-up. If you want to see if a game's worth downloading, a number of downloads to number of thumbs-up ratio would be more useful anyway.

I think an actual score...whether it be out of 5, 10 or whatever...would probably be a more practical idea.
Mainly because 'thumbs' do not have any actual tangible value, if you know what I mean. Like 1 thumb up could mean alot of things...depends on votes and what kind of votes you get.

A score as a pecentage will give you a much more exact measure of how much people like the game.
For example, some people could play a game and say "Nah, it's not terrible, but it's not worthy of a thumbs up"...on the other hand you'd get a much more exact measure of How well the game is liked when the you could give the game a score out of 10...then this situation would be more like "It's not a terrible game, but it's not worth a pass...4/10"

Makes more sense.

I also agree. However to make things easier we could just use the article system with a score of 0 to 5.

I dont agree that one should download games only based on screenshots (ie if the graphics are good). Some good games have only mediocre graphics.

Good 2nd point Cybermaze. I mean I think it's the right idea to only have users who have actually downloaded the game to give a rating to a game...and the system as is KINDA does that with the pop up screen asking if you liked or not...but I mean it's not full proof, and myself, like a few others do get pissed off with that seperate screen. And it comes up when the download's a dud and don't work.

The ideal system would be to only active the rating system for those downloads you've actually downloaded...or at least clicked on the link for.
But that does complicate things a bit further for our poor crew of overworked site coders.

I still stick by the score rating system rather than the thumbs no matter what happens.
