People are just lazy. They feel its too hard to type a full sentence, instead of "LOL" "U 2" and so on. 
Fine Garbage since 2003.
CURRENT PROJECT:
-Paying off a massive amount of debt in college loans.

An empty jar? Anyway, a lot of girls say 'lol', most often with lots of exclamation marks and large baby blue/pink italic fonts. I have a great chatup line which will render them completely helpless to my demands ("Does this smell like chloroform to you?"). All I need are some volunteers to help me take them back to a warehouse for safekeeping. Yes. Safekeeping. *thoughtful look*

I've always made an effort to type properly, even in instant message conversations. I agree acronyms usually suck, especially txt spk. I think it takes longer to read and write txt speak than it does to type normally. I'd have sat here ten minutes working out the txt equivalent if I didn't just type it out in full in 30 seconds.
