Recently Nintendo has been cutting down on Fan Games and has already shut down a few Fan Games based websites, some have managed to get back online while others are still shut down. A petition has already been started to bring back Fan Games and already a shit load of Signatures have been signed, i myself signed it so get in there and sign it: http://www.petitiononline.com/adb142/
WORD UP, P-UNIT!
I can't say I see what's so unreasonable about this. Nintendo owns the rights to their characters and they don't need their name tarnished by half-assed crappy fangames.
The most unreasonable part about it is many people worked on a Fan Game for countless and countless hours and all of the sudden there game that they put so much effort into is now taken down, even there whole website. i dont see anything reasonable in that at all.
Check out: www.oot2d.com one of the actual Good looking fan games, oh wait thats been taken off the web to. If Nintendo does go through with it, who knows maybe the other Big companys will follow and if so even some of the games here at TDC could be taken down Sonic DIY, Pacmanworlds e.t.c
If your smart enough to know how to find and download these fan games, then your easily smart enough to know they are fan games and not created by nintendo itself, so I dont know how thats tarnishing them. I say as long as you aint making profit off them then let them be allowed.

Show me the power child,
I'd like to say,
That I'm down on my knees today,
Gives me the butterflies,
Gives me away,
'Til I'm up on my feet again,
I'm feeling outshined.
hmmm...most fan games are crap, but then again, there's still a few good ones and some joke fangames....Then again, the guy said "P-unit" and "word up" whatever they mean(probably a language spoken by a foreign planet.....what the heck, I'll vote.
Also, if you're good enough to make a DECENT fan game, then why not replace the graphics and tweak the gameplay and actually make a DECENT ORIGINAL game?
@Tigerworks: why don't you change the characters and names in a fan fiction and sell it as an original? Or why not change the subject and sell some original artwork? People make fangames, because they liked the original and want to make a tribute to it, and if they are good at making games they aren't stupid for not making a great original instead of their awsome LoZ: Twilight of Evil game.
I, personally, would go by your advice, Tigerworks, but not everyone is like me. (which is why there are fangames )

I have mixed feelings about this, really. On one hand, it's their right, and anything that gets rid of the bulk of the awful fangames is a good thing. I think fangames stifle creativity, in that someone who is inspired by say Castlevania are more likely to make a fangame that can never live up to Castlevania, rather than a clone that would leave room for some innovation (as opposed to bad copies of features).
On the other hand, there are plenty of good fangames which may now be lost, and without fanmade remakes plenty of older games could dissapear forever.
good move nintendo. at first i thought "bastards!" but 3.5 seconds later i thought "hey that means less fangames!"... which is always good. ive only played 2 real fangames, they had skill in them too but still nothing on the original games.
"The most unreasonable part about it is many people worked on a Fan Game for countless and countless hours and all of the sudden there game that they put so much effort into is now taken down, even there whole website."
So someone who spends countless hours planning a bank robbery has the right to do it? Or how about a terrorist group that spends countless hours coordinating the hijacking of a plane?
I guess you never considered the fact that NINTENDO SPENT COUNTLESS HOURS MAKING ORIGINAL GAMES. They don't deserve to have their copyrighted ideas stolen. You act like the people at Nintendo are criminals, but it's quite the other way around.
Combined, they probably are. There's like eighty of the bloody things. I started playing Mario Golf on GBA last night. Super Mario Golf. What the fuck does golf have to do with Mario? You don't even play as him, you play as some little kids, none of whom have breasts. Not that Mario has breasts, but he has a devestating ass. The only other character I can think of with such a powerful ass is Astroboy. The next thing on my flash cart is probably going to be Astroboy Golf or AstroMario Breasts Advance.
I don't really care either way. If I created a game, only to have a thousand crappy fan games based on my game, I just might do something about it. So far, I haven't seen a good (or even decent) Nintendo fan game. Thus, I'm not signing no petition to bring them back.
But since this is another step towards Nintendo losing more fans and eventually going bankrupt... I'd say it serves them right. I certainly don't see them getting any profit from shutting down fan games, unless a few idiots who find them think that they reflect the real thing.

Yeh Nintendo did make the original and therfore own all rights to them.
But i mean "whats the point?" there probably gonna lose many fans by going through with this, which wont help the company but will hurt it.
Losing all Fan-Games isnt exactly a good thing, there are a few Top-quality ones in development and id say a fair amount of clickers started out wanting to recreate their favourite game.
Mario 3 had to be one of my most memorable games, grew up playing all the old NES games a kid Mario 1-3, Zelda 1-2, Duck hunt, California games e.t.c now they were the good shit, i can still remember most of the Mario 3 secrets, those were the days
I'm sure Mario Golf is wonderful. As far as golf games go. Which is about as wonderful as slamming my cock in a car door. But you're right; I wouldn't have downloaded it if it didn't have Mario's name on it.
Its simple, & strieght forword. Making fangames can be a hobby for filling spare time, but making them & expecting good comments is an entirly diffrent story. Fangames shouldnt be something people depend on proving there ability to code by making things like a full blown Sonic engine, you can do that with an original game just as easyly. Another thing, Fangames have never been something people liked playing, but only liked making, which is why there is no use to make fangame sites. Go Nintendo...
I doubt Mario Sunshine (which I've never even heard of by the way, but it sounds gay) has sold as many copies as Doom 3, when only 17 people in the world own Gamecubes and millions own PCs.
For some reason I don't believe that Mario Sunshine or whatever anywhere near beat GTA3 in sales.
Technically that would mean each Gamecube owner would have to buy the game 12,000 times each.
Yea Sunshine holds some kind of record for sales. its not the best game ever but i really enjoyed playing it. people probably only got it because hey "Mario 64 being the best 3D platformer ever" or so THEY say.
oh and its obvious Nintendo went out with the Snes. i mean all those Gameboy sales spanning almost 20 years now dosnt mean shit does it? that wasnt nintendo that was some fat chick with a console dev kit. im willing to bet whatever money i have that Nintendo sold more handhelds/consoles than Sony
anyways... ive got all the Mario Advance series except for 1 (which is crap anyways) and yea they're the creme de la creme for portable platformers
Doom 3 isn't a really crappy game, it's an above average FPS with the best graphics of any game ever. I can't wait for the engine to be used in another game, cos the Mars spaceship setting kinda got on my tits after a while.
I never pay multiplayer anyway, but I agree with the single player thing. I said already, it's above average. The only groundbreaking thing about it is the graphics, which no game can touch at the moment. The gameplay, however, takes a step back in time when games were no nonsense shooter, which isn't really too bad, but falls short of what we expect from games these days. I just can't wait for Half-Life 2 and Duke Nukem Forever (hahahaha, like that's ever coming out).
Doom 3 in High Detail looks gorgeous, but needs a hefty PC. However, no game has ever come close to the animations of the characters and monsters, they're fucking movie CGI quality.
Hehehe yeah Duke Nukem. Some of the quotes are word perfect rip-offs of Bruce and Evil Dead, then he has to go and get a chainsaw hand. Nevermind, we never got a decent Evil Dead game, so Duke's the best we got, and I still even play Duke 3D nowadays. An OpenGL conversion, yeah, but still.
Have you watched the E3 D4Ever video recently? It even looks good compared to games we see these days. I hope it eventually gets finished.
Hahaha, i have an old Troll doll stashed away in my cupboard, i think the hair was either green or purple o_0
Wasnt a big fan of SMS, although i only played it for like 40mins so i cant really judge it but i think id like SMB3 better
Yeah so did I, thats a shit colour. Seriously it looks like baby shit.

far cry's graphics aren't quite as good as doom 3's, but when you bear in mind that all doom 3 can render is small rooms and corridors, whereas far cry can not only do that very well but seamlessly blend it in with massive outdoor environments with a 1 km view distance, you've got a pretty clear winner.
i like Doom 3 but for it to look anywhere as good as the screenshots released your gonna need a good computer. my mates lent out my Farcy DVD so im probably never gonna test it out on my new graphics card lol.
yea... Duke3D is damn fine. years ago when my dad put the LAN in me and my mate just kept shrinking each other on a Duke3D co-op hah.
I'm working on Anime Rally, which contains Ash and Misty, who are two Nintendo characters. Along with other non-Nintendo characters.
If they shut down my game...ugh, that would be horrible. Anime Rally is a decent Mario Kart/RC Pro AM clone and it would be sad if I had to take them out.
I probably would just cancel the project if I had to do that.
Petitons usually dont work, but somehow, one convinced Midway to develop for the GCN again, so I'll go ahead and sign it.
I'd say morrowind is the winner of good graphics I have a 64 mb int. Intel Extreme graphics card and it can render the game in highest quality at probably an average of 50FPS (just don't try summoning ALL the creatures a tonce not pretty results) the game even requires a GeForce card to play...
As a boy, I wanted to be a train. I didn’t realize this was unusual—that other kids played with trains, not as them.
I signed it because I hate Nintendo, so it will make things harder for them.
Kidding... Most fan games suck; that's a fact. But there are good fan games out there. I remember making tons of Mario Fan Games when I was 7...They really sucked, so I never posted them.
Anyway, that's one more sig, isn't it?
Fine Garbage since 2003.
CURRENT PROJECT:
-Paying off a massive amount of debt in college loans.
-Working in television.
I think when Nintendo made this threat or whatever, they weren't targeting tgf megaman clones and such, but rather the almost exact code of some fangames written in c++ or something. I've played the metroid "fangame" that was so much like the real one, I shivered, and I've noticed recently that the game has been removed because the coder was accused of stealing the code. If they wanted to prevent the low end fangames, the would probably be gone already.
Also, most people who make fan games in the click community do it because there is a large access of resources, such as sprites and midi.
Bottom line, be orginal, and screw fangames, unless you really are truely a fan, and if you were a fan enough, you would want official stuff, not amature wannabes.

Am I misunderstanding copyright laws, or does Nintendo have the right to do this? Wanna know why you don't see non-fangame nintendo games anywhere but on nintendo consoles? It's because Nintendo owns the rights to their games and want to be the sole money makers from it... Copyrights were invented for a reason, and even if you got a billion signatures on that petition, it would make no difference. People don't just bend laws because it makes petitioners happy, they only bend laws for corrupt buisnessmen and politicians.
