Built between Earth-years 2178 - 2179, ESS Fleming was the second SEV-class vessel built by the United Galactic Forces. With a primary use for scientific research and galactic colonisation reconnaissance, the ESS Fleming is equipped with 2 decks-worth of science labs and a further 2 decks-worth of research and analytical equipment for identifying planets and worlds with the potential for human/alien colonisation.
In the Earth-year 2185, a distress signal from the ESS Fleming was received by one of the UGF's outposts. Though the signal was seemingly intercepted, and cut-off, by hostile forces, it was clear that the ESS Fleming had run into a fleet of Soran fighters.
The ESS Fleming quickly succumbed to the superior fire-power of the enemy forces...
