W00p w00p! First devlog!
I started this project page now since I solved a few distance/velocity issues.
The galaxy is created using proper distances, i.e you need to travel close to the speed of light for about eight minutes to traverse one Au(astronomical unit), and an average solar system will span approximately 50Au.
So you better start saving up to that hyperdrive!

The reason for this first post is simply to celebrate that I travelled approximately 150 000 000 000 pixels with my little test ship at a speed of ~300 000 000 pixels per second reaching my first Au!

A 2D Elite-clone sounds interesting. I'd have lots of questions about it, but I doubt you'd be able to answer them at this very early stage in development.

Is the "seamless" galaxy really necessary? It seems like it would be a very tedious way of covering long distances, considering space is quite big and tends to be quite empty...
I remember in the original "Wing Commander" it was possible to bypass asteroid fields by manually flying around them instead of hyperspacing - but it wasn't quick.

Glad it sounds interesting!
The seamlessness is not really neccessary, but since the game focuses wholly on player choice I want it to be possible to explore every inch of the galaxy - both stellar and interstellar space. The hyperdrive will be a crucial part of interstellar exploration since a speed of ~C is not near enough to create a pleasant gaming experience. Somewhere around ~1000 C is more manageable imo
