Project Overview |
|
Well, I finally created a project page for this.
You may have played v2 of this game, available for download here at TDC.
Here's a link: http://www.create-games.com/download.asp?id=7807
Well that version is out of date, but it gives a look at some of the gameplay which has mostly stayed the same.
I've also taken some points from the review:

Well, I'll update this description when I have more time, but that's the main jist of things.

New Player Sprites
It's been a while

Yes it has been a while since I worked on this game. I was just playing the original two versions and I realized the flaw in my design. I took out the complex button mapping of the newer version and instead replaced it with 2 buttons: Shoot and Shield. Instead of using a fancy maneuver with the shield + arrow keys, you strafe. This is the main move that I should have added. I am contemplating about remapping the strafe key to shoot, but it is still a bit usefuul to turn and shoot.
One thing I especially decided to change was the graphics. One look and I knew I needed a better style. So I'm bumping down the progress to 10% because only the engine is done at this point. So that's it so far. Feel free to commetn (please!)

Well, you might have noticed that I haven't made a devlog in quite some time. Well, [confession] I haven't really been working on this for some time. Shocker. But at any rate, today I added some actual powerups. The way they work is that your gun is upgraded to the next highest gun, until the highest. I don't know if that made any sense, but I'm also working on the final boss. I'll upload a new trailer as soon as I'm done.

This update has been overdue for a week.
Well, I've been working hard on this game. I'm really trying to improve the mini-bosses, instead of just having one larger enemy who has a little more health.
And last week, I made this trailerish thing, too. You can download it here. EDIT: Here's the link:
http://www.ysfmedia.com/sites/default/files/spacestar1.5%20low%20size.wmv
If you watch it through to the end, you'll see the return of the boss from v2, only this time, he's a lowly mini-boss with a different strategy. Although, it was ridiculously hard to get to the final boss in v2. And the mini-boss is harder too! You can also see my edits on enemy AI to make it easier at first, splitting it into three levels. Now the new AI goes like this.
Level 0 - Just a random Bouncing ball movement with shots every 30 milliseconds.
Level 1 - Horizontal Movement like Space Invaders, mixed up with some kamikaze dives at the player
Level 2 - The AI I had in the previous game.
I also made the lasers faster! And gave the player a new move. Hold the shield button (Now W; shoot is now E; On Joystick: Shoot is button 2, Shield is 4, and the other two I won't tell right now) and one of the direction keys to jump super fast in that direction. I also changed the ship sprite. Look for the new one in this video!
Some things I still need to do are improve the power-ups and that system and of course make the different modes and the other mini-bosses.
Not much else to say really... But wish me luck, 'kay?
And this knocks my progress up a notch.
