Project: Jasa The Wizard
Project Overview |
|
Jasa the wizard is an RPG in the making where you play as a wizard and have two meters: a Moral Meter and an Elemental Meter. The moral meter is affected by what you do, i.e. if you do something "evil" it will go down, if you do something "good" it will go up. Evil things range from stealing to killing innocent villagers, while good things would be catching felons and helping those in need. The types of enemies you kill and the types of quests you do can also affect the Moral Meter. When it reaches a certain low or high, you will transform into a Demon or Priest respectively.
As for the Elemental Meter, you fill it by completing special elemental quests. When you fill your elemental meter, you get the ability to transform into your Elemental form. For Wizards its Elemental Wizards, for Priests it's Druids, and for Demons it's Demigods.
The meters affect appearence, stats, what armor and weapons you can use, what quests you can complete, and how the people of the world treat you.
There are all kinds of items and spells, which I already have planned out. And quests, which I only have a few of so far. The main objective is to travel the world in serach of the 4 elemental crystals, and use them either to save the world, or help destroy it.
If anyone would like to help, please post in the thread, in the project forum, or PM me here. No matter what you specialize in, I will try to find a way to incorporate anyone who wants to help into the project design.

Well, I had to make an executive decision to halt production and rewrite the engine in scheme... The reason for this sudden change of heart is an RPG takes time and effort, and it's easier to make with a team. I have a team who knows scheme. This will hopefully make the game easier to overcome, and we will probably be able to release it sooner than if I was developing alone.
EDIT: The game will also probably be undergoing major re-constructive surgery, and after playing with the idea a bit, the game's plot may change. Hopefully, we'll still be able to have the very basic-est feature (the moral meter and transformation), but nothing is set in stone at this point. More info will be posted as soon as it is decided.

I just finished the engine after a few weeks of putting it off, and am quite happy with the results. I still have a lot of work to do, but I don't plan to stop working on this any time soon.
THE ENGINE:
+ Grid-based movement
+ Varying attack strength depending on your skill levels and weapons
+ Varying damage taken depending on your skill levels and armor
+ Fully functional meter with transforming
+ Working Inventory
+ Speech that appears one letter at a time.
+ Experience and leveling system
+ Working Camera
+ Quests
+ Saving/ Loading
I still need to make graphics, as all I have now are placeholders (for the most part). I also need to design maps, quests, enemies, and music, so I still have a long road ahead of me. Help is always appreciated if you feel like doing some music writing or pixel art.

So far I have the grid-based movement, some graphics and animation done, the HUD planned out, The first map done, and a whole bunch planned out in a notebook
I plan on working on this on and off until summer, as homework is a big issue at my school )2-4 hours a day, getting home at 8:00). Hopefully, I will get a bunch done over summer, and I do not in any way plan on abandoning this project, even if it means forcing myself to work on it for an hour a day every day for a few years...
