The Daily Click ::. Downloads ::. Review Review: One Step From Reality (chapter one)
Yet another good klik adventure game has appeared in our ranks. As Death Reaper X said, it's about a useless wizard who has to stop an evil invincible sorcerer. Yeah, it's a cliche story, but it still fits in nicely. Gameplay-wise, it's a classic adventure game. Your usual non-serious adventure game filled with little quirks, a nice inventory system, and fun conversation. Well, the inventory was a little different, but who cares? The game itself was hilarious and I literally laughed out loud a lot when the first time I played this. The game was nearly flawless. There were a few bugs here and there, but it hardly detracted from the fun. The only problem was that the game was too easy(In My Humble Opinion). The presentation was excellent. The inventory was easy and bug-free. The interface was easy to use and non-prohibitive. The graphics were cute and all. The main problem here is that the text moved too quickly(back in its beta days) then it moved too slowly in the final. I heard the text speed is fixed now but I haven't checked. The sound was OK, but the music was horrible, especially in the wizard's council. Maybe it's just my sound card and speakers and my experience as a drummer, but the drum beat in that level distracted me from the story the first time I heard it. The credits was one of the few interesting ones I've seen in a click game(and it's not just coz my name was mentioned in it). As for lastability...I finished it in less than an hour. The answers too the puzzles were just plain obvious; there isn't a puzzle you can't figure out by just wandering around and picking up everything you can't. Not only that, but the answers are mentioned if you just look or talk around. But then...I heard I'm one of the few who find it so easy *without* a walkthrough. Still, it is fun as a stress relief. There's always those moments when you wanna beat up some guy with a big stick, read love letters to monkeys, and piss on sacred artifacts. Gameplay Nearly flawless gameplay +8 points One of the few games that made me laugh that much +2 points 10 points total Presentation Nice, cute graphics +8 points Text speed detracts from enjoyment -1 point Darn music distracted me -1 point Cool credits +1 point 7 points total Graphics Nice, cute graphics +8 points 8 points total Sound and music Decent sound +5 points Horrible music -3 points The music was obviously unoriginal -1 point 1 point total Lastability Less than ONE HOUR personally +4 points Possible sequel +1 points Mild replayability, as a stress relief +1 point 6 points total Overall An excellent game. Well worth the small download. Heck, I even recommend voting this as Game of the Week. Gah, who cares about the music? I use Winamp to replace the music in most adventure games, anyway. 8 points total
