The Daily Click ::. Downloads ::. Review Review: Unknown Game 2532
It's a shame that this game isn't totally hopeless, otherwise I could make some witty comment about the file size being very appropriate. Speaking of which, the ZIP is crammed full of DLL files - slight padding here to get the size up to _that_ number? <¦-) Breakout clones are usually made by beginners as it's a familiar game concept and you can't really go far wrong with it. This edition is no exception, but it doesn't really add anything to the genre either. What you have is your basic paddle, ball and bricks (some of which contain bonuses. You know, the usual - extra life, give the ball the power to go right through blocks for a while), and that's pretty much it. The graphics are small but well-drawn. In fact, possible too small - I had to squint at the menu to see what I was clicking on as you have to click directly on the small System-font words. If it has a major problem it's the ball movement. The place where you hit the ball on the paddle isn't taken in to consideration at all, and the bouncing of the ball seems almost random at times. The distinct lack of powerups doesn't help either - the only traditional one here is the "travel through bricks" one that I mentioned earlier, there are none of the "three balls" or "stretch bat" items. As said in the description, it contains the bug that counts your score as the number of paddles you have left at the end of the game, but this has since been fixed. To sum up, it's decently programmed but there's nothing new here.
