The Daily Click ::. Downloads ::. Review Review: Furballs
Well, it's 17MB, which by Click standards is fairly gargantuan. I'm taking full advantage of my Uni's ResNet connection here, but I imagine that any 56k users will really be put off downloading this game because of the sheer size of it. The question is, though - is it worth it? Well, it's my task to tell you. The game opens with a console-type screen and some jazzy music that instantly reminded me that I have to get around to re-installing Transport Tycoon. One fairly strange but nicely done plot sequence later (the way the text is displayed there still looks a bit TGF-ish, though), it's time for the main game. It opens on the map screen. A map screen! I haven't seen one of those for ages. It's one of the things that made the Mario games so good. Well, maybe. I don't know, some people just know how to satisfy my hunger for all things Retro. And retro is certainly what you get. The graphics look as if they were hand-drawn, in a similar sort of style to Yoshi's Island. The main character, who resembles a radish with eyes and feet, has to throw tomatoes at enemies to incapacitate them, and jump around platforms collecting bonuses. If that's not a winning formula I don't know what is. The trouble is, though, that I don't know how to score the game because of the bugs that are present - Spram has acknowledged them in the description for the game. They appear to occur on some computers and not others, so it's a matter of luck whether you'll be able to play the game properly or not. Mine could barely run the game at an acceptable speed, let alone perfectly. So don't let the Overall score deceive you - I've decided to play it safe because of the (potential) bugs present, which combined with the hefty download size make it a bit of a gamble whether to download this or not. Otherwise, I (and I'm sure, all of us) find it a mystery how Spram can continue to churn out such great games every time. If it's your last game, Spram, that's a shame, but good luck to you <¦-)
