Ooh, an AVI logo. That's rather nice. Makes the ZIP take up rather a lot of extra space, but at least it looks good. The intro slightly later is also nicely done, but unfortunately it's surrounded by acres of black border in a window that's quarter of the size of a cassette tape case. (I know. I checked.) The Help screen is simple but at least helpful, which is always good. A handy tip is also provided for those who are a bit stuck (and it really is rather handy). After another small but perfectly formed cinema, it's in to the game. Thankfully the window is of a reasonable size here - in fact, almost exactly the size of said cassette tape case. The graphics sort of remind me of the old Apogee games, but then I say that about a lot of things. What impressed me most was the custom "shooting" engine. Rather than attack enemies in the normal way, you have to pick up whatever's lying around and fling it at the enemies to neutralise them. One of my personal favourites is using a chicken, which handily are found near the start of the game, and explode in a mass of feathers when they hit something. The feeling of satisfaction when you throw a chicken at a bat, which then falls down and hits an enemy, then using that unconscious enemy to beat another opponent, is unbelievable. (All right, it was a bit of a fluke shot). Wow, I've spent long enough talking about that. The rest of it's rather good too, with the appropriate sound effects, dark but good graphics and silky smooth animation. Mmm... silky smooth. Anyway, the only flaw I can find with this is the lack of music - I know that it's meant to be dark and gloomy, but this is the kind of game that could really do with some old Megadrive-like music to go in the background. I liked the balance of difficulty as well - each level is rather hard, but they're short so you never have to go back too far. It's good fun and well worth downloading.
