I thought the installation for this was a bit long-winded... it seems to go through an inordinate amount of pages before actually getting round to setting the game up on your hard drive. Maybe it's just because I've had a two-hour Boiling Things practical class. Still, it's the game I'm meant to comment on. And through the letterbox shaped window, children, we have Hurdler. The game is run in a rather unusual wide space on the screen, which I thought was just my monitor going a bit strange for a nasty moment. I like the main menu, it keeps to the theme of the game with your character visible on the screen and floating skywards with a balloon when you select an option. Also, the music's nice and puzzle-gamey as well - a piece called "Orange" by Astral. The only thing I didn't like was the rather startlingly loud "HURDLER!" voice. I started up the main game and instantly liked it. The graphics are small but very well-defined, so it's clear what's going on. The way that the hurdles collapse and the stickman falls over is rather amusing, although I'm not sure how a stickman can bleed. The aim is to use the four arrow keys to perform different kinds of jumps and navigate over the hurdles - in a way similar to the old classic Vib Ribbon (well, not exactly classic, but you might have heard of it, anyway.) The result is a very simple, but very entertaining game - I always say that the simplest ideas work best. What really makes it special is the quality and polish of the whole thing - it doesn't really look like a Click game at all. Strangely, though, I couldn't see the right hand part of the playfield (about 100 pixels of it), which made it rather difficult for me to complete levels. However, I'll put this down to me having a rubbish computer and won't let it affect the score. It's great.
