The Daily Click ::. Downloads ::. Review Review: Unknown Game 6523
With the controversy going on around this game, I felt obliged to write a concise and honest review (I don't feel like writing something long right now, let's see what happens). PRESENTATION Stylish menu that gives me Within a Deep Forest-vibes. Simple but functional tutorial that presents the excellent movement of Knytt. Intro that in an elegant and slightly clever way connects the game with its prequel of sorts. Then you end up crash landed on a barren, strange planet. Beautiful. GAMEPLAY The simple movement of Knytt has a really nice and fluid feeling to it. There's a sense of determination as you quickly crawl through the strange new world. However, it ends there. About two slightly difficult jumps and a couple of other challenges are all there is to substantial gameplay. With nothing there, it's with boredom you run through the same environment a second time. The first time, it's with curiosity. More interaction and challenges would greatly improve the game. GRAPHICS Varying quality. They're simple all the way, and in some places it works (and sometimes very well), in others it doesn't. Slightly better than WaDF, I'd say. SOUND & MUSIC This, together with some of the scenery - including the lonely "eskimo" quietly watching the ocean - is where most of the atmosphere comes from. I simply love the rattling of Knytt's feet(?) in unison with the background noises and the for the most part very fitting music. Very good. LASTABILITY Took maybe one or two hours to finish. Some of the time was boring backtracking through things I had already seen, some was curious exploration of the world, which a couple of times led to nice suprises. At a few key moments I was in a slightly meditative state. Will I play it again now that I've finished it? No. Most probably not. But I finished it. OVERALL For the most part a nice little game while it lasts, but it could've been so much more. It packs the potential to be an epic journey full of challenge, mystery and wonder, but now it's... nice. And a bit interesting.
