The Daily Click ::. Downloads ::. Review Review: The Click and the Dead
So which is better, miles and miles of poor code all strung together with poorly thought out and broken menus or a peanut sized game that looks as if Michaelangelo himself has put together? I would imagine the second option would appeal to people more and i agree too. This is the Ferrero Rocher of The Daily Click; small and smooth tasting! In keeping with tight time constraints of the Tourey compo, you are introduced to MitchHM's latest effort with a couple of cool looking title/intro screens. Both ooze class and functionality at the same time. And they're both attractive too, much like the gold wrapping of a Ferrero Rocher. Passing the title screens, you get straight into the action. Not quite as i remember the wild west from the films i've seen, the world of The Click And The Dead is a beautifully crafted and slightly cuddly shoot-fest. Your goal is to get through the town shooting all the cowboys who appear and try to take you out. With the atmosphere reminding you of the superb Playstation/Namco game Point Blank, players must use the mouse to point their gun at those dastardly wild westerners and fire using the left mouse button. Once your six-shooter has been dispensed, a simple right-click of the mouse reloads the chamber and you're off again. Simple! It must also be noted that MitchHM has done a great job of coming up with cool ways in which the enemy cowboys appear; you'll see them flying through the air, smashing through clock-faces and appearing from behind barrels. Sprites within the game have been crafted with the utmost love and attention and are some of the best examples you will see on TDC. Colours have been chosen to add life to each character and building. The high quality pixel-art adds great detail to the different textures. Parallax scrolling also rears its head and further makes the game look beautiful! I would liken this game's eye-candy appeal to that of a Ferrero Rocher wrapper. Another strong area with this game is the audio content. Music is ditty and arcade-like and, more importantly, fits the game perfectly. Then you shoot one of the cowboys and you find yourself greeted with one of the finest sound effects ever in a Klik game; "Phwo-aahhh!" Genius! Whoever made that sound effect obviously knows how to make appealing little details when it comes to games. I look for little things in games that go one better over other people's creations - i believe that MitchHM has achieved this with this one sound effect! It is up there with George Lucas' Lightsaber woosh-effect and that crackle you get when unwrapping your first Ferrero Rocher. Once again, genius! Unfortunatley, all good things must come to an end and this is where The Click And The Dead falls short. For me, lastability is something very important in a game. That is not to say that it has to be long to be good; often a game can drag and therefore the lastability goes against it. The Click And The Dead is its own worst enemy in this respect because it has been put together so damn well you are begging for more. That is a credit to MitchHM and his talents. However i cannot help but wish for more; more stages, more difficulty levels, more enemy types, more comedy moments. Then again i guess a Ferrero Rocher only last a bite or two, so maybe it is no bad thing if quality is of the highest.
So there we have it, a game that is as beautiful as a FerreroSpA product and as moreish as a FerreroSpA product. For goodness sake give this game your time and experience it's gorgeousness, then bombard the comments section with calls for a full-length version. "Monsieur, with these games, you're really spoiling us!"
