Bernard & Hank version 1.01
--------------------------

Changes in this version:
- slower acceleration
- weaker gravity
- boss bug fixed

The first and probably last game by the Peasants:

Matt Esch (levels, music)
Johan Jansen (levels, coding)
Matt Olver (music)
Sander van Reek (levels, coding)
Ryan Wilfong (levels)
Tom Filhol (levels)
Hayo van Reek (gfx, sound, music, levels, coding)

Bernard & Hank is about the farmer Bernard Buffalo and his retired friend Hank Hoedown.
The evil businessman NationalLiberal wants his farmland, to build a factory farm on it.
He sends out his minions to steal the deeds to the farm. Bernard and Hank will have to
get this back, and they have to get rid of all the liberalminions. They will have to go
through 40 normal platform levels, 3 driving levels and meet 15 different enemies to do so.
The game is a bone-headed platformer with moving platforms, collecting coins,
jumping on fat people and getting shot by cowliberals. The game also contains some minigames,
to be unlocked by finishing levels.
I used a 52 colour palette for the gfx, because I felt like doing something different,
I have been using quite enough colours in my candy-ish Fishhead games.

Although this game took 15 months to create (we started in december 2003), only about
6 months were really spent on working on the game. We orinally started working on this
with 3 people: Matt Esch, Johan and me. More team members were added along the road, but
it all started falling apart pretty soon due to some non-click related problems.
Still, it was nice to work with these great people, and the game wouldn't be there without them.

If you download this game and expect this to one of the best click games ever, it will
leave you pretty disappointed. The game is so simple it is hardly there. The gfx are
simple, the sounds are simple, the music is simple, the gameplay is simple and paralaxing is nothing new.
If you expect a decent and fun game to kill some time, this will actually
make you happy. The game is pretty big, no standard movements were used, and all gfx, sound effects
and music are original.

The zip file also contains a configuration app (window size, backgrounds) and an instruction manual.

Please report bugs here, I will try to fix them all.

You're a narcissist, circ-cat.

This is addictive and has a good sense of progression.

The music is probably the best clickgame music ever, 'wild west' is great!

"Natomic, Faind or HES" - Wait a minute... we made a GAME? Why was I not informed? This one is... OK. I like the retro feel, but there's not really a lot new or interesting about it.

Posted by Hayo 19th March, 2005

why are people repeating stuff from the description here?

I don't believe this peace of *** is gonna win GOTW award...

well, despite boring the socks off people, its a decent game for what it was meant to be. so winning GOTW really doesnt surprise me id like to state that my opinion remains the same though... "being retro" is not an excuse for being incredibly boring

I hate the word "retro" Its a fashion word, retro isn't retro at all. This game just had a lot of restrictions, and was never meant as a klik-classic or something. "I don't believe this peace of *** is gonna win GOTW award..." learn how to spell little boy :)

you gave this game a 9/10 based on the fact that it "does exactly what it says on the tin"? i should make a pong game and only mean it to be a well put together pong game, and i better get a fucking 9/10

Thanks Lucid :) "i should make a pong game and only mean it to be a well put together pong game" Yeah, you should make a game, at least you would have a reason to be here.

actually i have made a game here before. granted, it sucked, but it was a game nonetheless

Posted by Hayo 21st March, 2005

okay, well, if you make a good pong game I will give you a good review.

Qoute: "If you download this game and expect this to one of the best click games ever, it will leave you pretty disappointed. The game is so simple it is hardly there. The gfx are simple, the sounds are simple, the music is simple, the gameplay is simple and paralaxing is nothing new. " Thats why i said that - no hype in the dl description, and its also a very good game.

Thanks Andy! one note, I did not "choose" the sounds, I made them.

Posted by AndyUK 22nd March, 2005

ok, I wasn't sure if they were made by you or taken from somewhere else. It was hard to tell since they were very 8-bit sounding.

The final boss is very anti-climatic (and extremely easy!)

kinda what you expect from a fat old man.

Wow! I've been missing out on a lot... I didn't even know this was out! :O Downloading/reviewing...

Posted by Retired Kliker Lazarus 22nd March, 2005

Hmmm... I can't download it. :( 'Bad Gateway The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server.'

Posted by Hayo 22nd March, 2005

seems dot tk hosting is down again. http://www.newklear.com/fishhead/bnh.zip is the direct download link.

It says there's nothing in the zip. :( It must just hate me. :?

Posted by Hayo 23rd March, 2005

uh, yeah it seems to hate you indeed. Maybe try again later, if it doesn't work dc-mail me.

Posted by AndyUK 24th March, 2005

I had that problem, can't remember what i did to sort it out, i only got 4 percent of it everytime. maybe i reset my pc or somthing.

Posted by SlowMotionRiot 24th March, 2005

It may be antivirus software interfering with your file transfers. Try changing your permissions for the download location and that may help. I woudn't normally recommend completely disabling AV software for the duration of the download, but that's also an option.

Posted by Retired Kliker Lazarus 24th March, 2005

Alright, downloading...once more. If it doesn't work THIS time, I'll dc-mail you, Hayo.

This game was fun for a little while but it was a good game.

Posted by Retired Kliker Lazarus 27th March, 2005

Got it- fantastic so far. Expect a review soon. :)

Posted by MasterM 28th March, 2005

i ALWAYS get stuck in the ground. that really ruins the game :( like i wont play it anymore. i already tried the first 4 levels 5 times and i couldnt beat those because i always get stuck in the ground :( the graphics are nice though

Posted by Hayo 28th March, 2005

I actually never get stuck, no matter how hard I try, thats why I can't really fix that bug. People who got stuck told me you can get out by jumping a bit and stuff.

Posted by Rik 28th March, 2005

i just got stuck in the ground too :S good game otherwise

Posted by Shroomster 3rd April, 2005

This rocks. It has a game boy color feel. But i got stuck in the ground too... :( It's still good!

Posted by Tom 3rd April, 2005

I've been testing the game since about a year now, and I didn't get stuck in the ground once. Weird...

Posted by Hayo 3rd April, 2005

yeah, it seems to be pc-related. I will test it on different pc's till I get stuck, then I can fix the bug.

Posted by The Chris Street 23rd April, 2005

Its, ah, not a timer based or "always" event platform engine, is it? If so, that could be the problem.

Posted by Hayo 24th April, 2005

Hmm nope it isn't. But that doesn't mean I don't suck at platform engines :(

Posted by Windybeard Games 5th May, 2005

Fantastic, i love brainless platformers, nice, brings back memories (not of this game though obviously)

Posted by Shroomster 8th May, 2005

No, it has a SNES feel. This game rocks!

Posted by KevinHaag 12th May, 2005

Very well done game! One of the best click platformers i've seen!
