In early 2005 I stumbled upon an old Atari 2600 game by Starpath called "Communist Mutants from Space." The concept of the plot seemed so ridiculous (commie aliens?) that I instantly fell in love with this campy example of Cold War-era anti-socialist sentiment. When I actually played the game, I discovered that the concept was actually pretty well structured: a Mother Creature that spawns eggs that spawn enemies. It didn't take long before I realized I had to make a tribute to this obscure game by producing my own remake.

The game is pretty simple. You control the spaceship at the bottom of the screen. Your goal is to kill the Mother Creature at the top of the screen, which isn't as easy as it sounds -- the Mother Creature will spawn eggs that act as a shield. The eggs willl hatch into Communist Mutants which dive down at your ship. Destroy the Mother Creature and any remaining eggs to advance to the next wave.

By the way, yes, the graphics are totally original (for better or worse).

Hey, this is pretty good. The one problem I have is the limiting laser-shooting ability, although it does make a potentially simple game a bit more challenging.

Good game! I'm sure you were trying to be true to the original in this one, but if you make a sequel, it would be cool to have powerups for your lasers and different kinds of monsters that attack in different ways.
