In lots of games made with other programs, you press pause and find a menu flashes up on the screen - but the background of the game is still visible.

It's a simple effect to achieve, so I'm surprised I've not seen it used more in MMF games.

So here's a simple demonstration of how to do it.

It doesn't contain many examples of the potential effects you can pull off, but frankly it shouldn't need to. It's kind of obvious what you can use it for. I personally like to use fade effects with it, or have a simtransparent box appear over the screen so it looks like a the screen has simply darkened a little and the menu has appeared.

NOTE: My server's being a pain recently, tell me if you can't access the file.

This is... really... easy to do. I did this in Balloon Fight and Donkey Kong Jr. XP.

W00t, goodie for you.

As I said, since it's such a simple effect it's surprising more games don't use it. Even Eternal Daughter had to resort to the Q&A Object for their pause screen, it was insane.

If this helps someone start using alpha menus where they didn't before, then my work here is done

Umm, this IS really easy to do. Some people like to do it in other ways though.

Well your host is down right now, but if it's anything like I think it is, consider the fact that Eternal Daughter is a relatively older game, so a lot of newer effects that were possible even in the later versions of MMF 1.5, especially with the later extensions. It was sort of limiting.

Easy or not, not everyone thinks of that kind of thing. I think it's a good tut.
