Made for the Gamebuilder 20 Event Competition.

Darkfate is an adventure game.

The story begins in a total mess. Chris Freeman lands up surrounded by mountains, not knowing where he comes, or who he is. Worried by loneliness and unknowing, he is leaving the place at the pursuit of answers, and is on the way to solve the many mysteries which reign in this place…
The discovery of this hero with no past is going to be no less than moving and enigmatic.

I love the minimalist graphical style, but it's just so spectacularly slow (I'm guessing it uses the viewport extension?).
I might try it on my laptop later, but it's not even playable on this old pc.

Wow dude, I've gotta say that was awesome. The sounds were great, the crashing of thunder, the pouring of rain, and the haunting sounds of the cave (and other places) helped set the atmosphere, along with the scenery in the game. One problem people may have was that it was more of an interactive story than a game, but I love that kinda stuff. The one problem that I have (and it's not an actual problem with the game, I don't think) is that I feel like I missed something in the game.

[SPOILER ALERT!] [SPOILER ALERT!]
When you view the last note, after the screen has turned black, what is the "thing" that is referred to that causes everything? Maybe you could PM me it so people don't see it before they play.
[SPOILER END!] [SPOILER END!]

But I loved the game, and I wanna make a game with a similar style to it (more of a storytelling game). I'll have to see if I can think of any ideas that I like. Again, great job!

I've played this game before, wasn't there a flash version around?

Thanks Chris Vermilya ! Happy to know you have questions about the story
The story is a little complex but you can understand everything, and all has an explanation...
There is un website of darkfate, but all is in french (i'm french ^^) : http://kevinsoulas.fr/darkfate
If you have questions, you can PM me

@Sketchy : the game don't use any extension exept Complex-shader pack v2. Try to close all your applications, and play in windowed mode.

@UrbanMonk : the game is new, no flash version available.

this would be really good if you could interact with stuff etc. so it made you forgot how very linear it is.
i like the graphic style even if you were a matchstick.
and comments in french when the whole game was in english - yeah ok.
about half way through i realized - im not really playing a game at all here - but an semi interactive storybook without the interactive part.
good for 20- events.

*spoilers

i really liked the end until it came up with a follow up black screen with text saying something about how 500 years later they discovered the black hole or whatever... when he fell off the building onto the road i thought "oh! the whole time i've been playing as some crazy/suicidal/drugged out guy who was imagining it all" but then it turns out he wasn't. i think that would have been a better ending... haha but thats just me.

Wonderful atmosphere, but the ending is expectable. Graphics and SFX are great though. Sad there's no interaction at all.
4/5
