New Rain Demo

This is a rain engine I've designed for future use in various games - possibly to distribute if theres enough interest.

The main reason I'm proud of this rain engine is because unlike most rain in games, it's designed to be as dynamic as possible. Ran almost entirely through variables or easy to control active objects. Everything from the size of the rain, the rate it falls, deflection from wind currents, non-uniform flowing, even lightning is entirely controlled by variables. This makes the rain fit with virtually any engine, with enough tweaking of the values.

Once I fine tune the values for customization, I may release an update which allows them to be changed in real-time. Until then, this is non-interactive.

A few main reasons for submitting this:
- I'd like to gather opinions on how to improve it.
- Performance scale, I'd like to know how it performs on a range of systems.
- Possibly release an open source.

PS: If you're expecting anything more than a simple tech demo, please do not download. It's only 5MB's but if you downloaded it, you should know what it is.

I have an Nvidia GeForce FX 5200 graphics card (i.e. fairly dated), and I get some noticeable lag (about 30-40 FPS) along with a row of brighter raindrops in the middle of the screen.

Other than that, I love the atmosphere it brings. I'd definitely like to see an open source version of this someday, but either way, cool stuff.

Tested on a 3.2GHz Dual-Core with on-board GFX (Intel G41).
I'm not getting any noticeable lag, although I am seeing a band of raindrops across the middle of the screen, the same as Strife mentioned.

I think it would be a lot better if the sound effects were coordinated with the events on screen.
I'd like to see a flash of lightning, and then a few seconds later, hear the thunder (obviously sound travels slower than light). And of course, the brighter the lightning flash, the louder the thunder clap.

Very nice! I watched it for a few minutes. Lighting and open source would be good.

Seems to work grate for me, I'm running a Intel Core 2 Duo 3.00GHz 4Gig of RAM and a GeForce GTX 275.

There did seem to be a line going through the middle of the scene where it looked like the rain was hitting the ground, however when the lightning flashed and I could see the background scene better there didn't seem to be any ground.

The light in the center is actually a shine/glare.

Wow impressive rain demo, I should try to do that in html5. Is this demo cpu bound in any way? I am asking because of Strife, my i3 cpu likes it.
