Hmm... I think the download genres should be redone and I think I remember a post somewhere about someone else who felt the same way. So.. any suggestions?

I think theyre fine as they are now. They could be improved by having fewer categories.
The fact that there is a bat&ball section is weird. It should be renamed the n00b category.
Hell no, they're not fine as they are. Real time strategy and Real time strategy (RTS)? 2 Platform categories? I thought about following with the genres from other non-klik sites, but klik has so many games in certain genres that it's not really right (ie. platform and bat&ball and maybe even shooter).
On another thing, some people would argue that platform isn't even it's own genre. But there are plenty of (good) games out there that only aspire to be platformers, not RPGs or anything.

Platformer (This includes Beatemups, shooters and mario clones)
Action (shootem ups, games that aren't platformers, pacman)
Retro (old school games)
Board games (Tic tac toe)
Rts (a spot no one will put games in)
RPG (zelda /pokemon clones and text adventures)
Klick (engines, tutorials, objects, extension)
Screen Savor
Other (tdc vertical scrolling image, abandoned games)
Beat em up shouldn't come under platformer, it should have it's own shiny catagory. I think the catagories at the moment are mostly fine, some of the similar ones just need consolidating, like Muz said the two RTS catagories, there's also Platform and Platformer, and Racing and Drive em Up should probably be made into Driving, and I reckon Shoot em Up could be stuck into Action.
i definitely think they should be redone. I even think i made a post about it a couple of years back. I mean, how is "demo" a genre? or "tutorial" ? :S
DEMO (either pay or free)
SHAREWARE (obviously a pay game)
EDGY (Anne Frank's Artillery Showdown)
GOTW (A game of the week award winner)
GOTY (A game of the year award winner)
ADMIN'S CHOICE (Maybe a good game that didn't win GOTW because its competition was Eternal Daughter or something.
I don't think platformer should have it's own section, since that describes the game's engine and not really the game itself. Hasslevania is a platformer but if anybody asks me about it I say it's an adventure game. I don't know where "Bat & Ball" would fall into on the above list though.. It's not really a shooter, and not really a puzzle. Hmmm, maybe bat n' ball should also have it's own category.
EDIT: Oh, and you could have beat 'em up fall into the action category. River City Ransom? Double Dragon? Even Street Fighter could also be considered an action game, couldn't it?

Those genres used to have a purpose in the old days (old days = before the retarded thumbs system that has been killing the community since). You clicked on them for a top list of that genre. Now it's just one big top list with shit games that will never be knocked off by new, good ones.
You wouldn't even need sub categories Shab. It would simplify everything to group all like games into a single category. For example, both Lolo and Tetris are puzzle games, but completely different. It wouldn't be way out there to put both on the "puzzle games" list. It's not necessary to say that Lolo is a top-down game and Tetris isn't. Simon's Quest and Zelda are both adventure games but couldn't be more different than each other. Throw them both on the adventure list! Who cares if one's a platformer and the other's not?
I mean you COULD have sub categories, but all that'd do is make a lot more work for you guys and muddy it up with too many lists. I'd rather see 100 games sorted in 10 categories of 10 games each than 100 games sorted out in 20 categories of 5 games each.

yes, but lots of times I wanted to DL a Verticle shooter (Raiden Style) and not a horizontal one (Gradius). Same goes for action, what if I didn't want a platformer in there?
Hmm.. here's what I think:
Abandonware/Demo/Engine/Tutorial
Action/Arcade
Adventure
Application (+ Miscellaneous?)
Bat and Ball/Pinball
Beat 'Em Up
Racing
Platform
Puzzle
Strategy
Retro/Shmup
Role Playing Game (RPG)
Sport
I'm not so sure about retro is a genre, but if you made a pacman or tetris game, where else would it be? IMHO, Platform should be it's own category, especially since there's so many games that are no more than platformers (e.g. Eternal Daughter, Mario, Sonic). You know, the type of game where there's no real quest or so, you just jump around and 'fight' things. If you feel that your game is more of say.. a RPG with a platformer engine, then you can pick it as RPG instead.
Actually, I thought of sub-categories too, but I thought that we'd just end up adding more redundant sub-cats later on to cover what we missed earlier. In the end, we'd end up with the same mess.

well, a few more people thought like i did then i thought. But, seriously, the downloads do need an overhaul. Some of the links (especially tutorials) don't work anymore! And some of the double catagories should be condensed. I agree with most what everybody else has said.
All platforming problems can be mostly solved here:

I think that's what admins do. That's also what the Alert Admin button is for. If everyone pressed that button whenever there's a broken link, there wouldn't be any broken links

Actually, they're more for something you'd send a quick message to an admin about. Half of them are from people whining about others voting thumbs down their games. I think little things like broken links and inappropriate language are worth reporting.
