Nope. I've been mentioning it since practically the first time I was here, but it's always been ignored. I could write a long, long speech on why GOTW is wrong, with plenty of examples, but I did and won't write another one.
Let's face it, the thumbs system sucks balls. It's unfair and a lot of people are abusing it by voting thumbs down without even downloading the game, also I think the ratings should appear immediately after the first vote has been cast.
True. I've seen a game that got 10 downloads and about 17 thumbs down. I think I deleted it since the user was banned anyway. But it still shows how unfair it is.
I demand top 10 lists!
And where will the top 10 lists come from? Everyone will be begging for a place on the list, there's no way to determine who deserves to be there. Are we going to follow the thumbs up votes? Reviews?
Of course, you could make your own unofficial top 10 list. I demanded a FAQ that listed all the klik questions newbies always ask and nobody listened. After a while, I just made my own Click FAQ and Pete put it on KA soon after. And while I put my full name in it just for fun, I heard that some of the people googling me found it .
When you post a comment for a game, and you didn't vote yet, you can add a rating in stars (Like in the articles) from 1-5 (0 is just stupid.)
Nope, that's replacing the problem with another problem. (note the italics *nudges Clubsoft*)
The articles system has its flaws. Just like the downloads where someone would vote you down because the title is ugly, the 1-5 rating system is the same because it lets you deliver a harder blow that a simple thumbs down. That damn article rating system is one I've also wanted to get rid of (especially the 0, because people would vote a 0 on my articles just because they didn't understand the title). But it's the only system that works for the articles, so it's ok.
I think the downloads should go back to following review averages. That system worked quite well, it was only a bit more tiring to maintain.
And there should be a "Report an unjustified rate" thing
Ugh.. no. We already have that happening every week. It might be unfair for them to vote like that, but it's not fair not to let them vote either.
Disclaimer: Any sarcasm in my posts will not be mentioned as that would ruin the purpose. It is assumed that the reader is intelligent enough to tell the difference between what is sarcasm and what is not.
Would people hate me if i said the site was fine as is? I mean, I don't like the rating system, so i pretend it doesn't exist. I see a thumbs down and i think, "oh, its just another idiot" If I see a criticism , I listen (sometimes).

The problem with that being that nobody reviews games, so the system becomes pointless.
The idea of adding a stars system tied into comments is for people to add a "mini" review of sorts to it, anything deemed unfair or purely negative (in the none constructive critisism sort of way) will be removed.
I was also thinking of adding a favouriting system, similar to how youtube works.
Couldn't we just keep the thumbs, but make your rating visible? Looking at thumbs tells me if people found the game enjoyable or not, but 3 stars can either mean "average coding, not so great" or "pretty good game, I found it fun". The thumb language is universal.
Well no, because the game gets a rating based on the whole game in its' entirety with stars, just as thumbs up does - it's not based off one aspect. If something has 4 stars because the music was bad - the game as a whole wasn't as good because of the music letting it down, so as a whole it was awarded 4 stars...
Just seen the new stars rating system in action and it's far superior
... Though I did see a post say I'll download it later on and a 3 star rating and I was like "omg Ben! Rating BEFORE playing?!" But then of course I realised after reading through a few more psots that the rating is attached to all comments made before the rating was given. Phew. Sorry Ben. <3 again
