i guess this is directed at either Flava or Clubsoft.

how easy would it be to code a vitalize arcade section for TDC? I think that would be great fun so long as the games were good.

Been thinking about doing one actually.. But I have a few other updates to finish first.
I'm not sure how many people would use it though?

You would need to give people a place to put highscores and what not. It's not hard to add Vitalize to a website, you would need to give people a reason to put it on the site.

Oh yeah of course - I've done a similar system for the Ectoprods website (although if I was to do one for the DC then it'd probably be more customizable). Just sometimes we even have a lack of downloads, and I hardly know anybody who actually makes Vitalize games anymore. But then again having an arcade could help motivate more people to make more Vitalize games.. My plan was to have an arcade where people can submit games and also allow users to host tournaments on certain games - sort of like the arcade mod for Vbulletin forums.

I might make the general poll this week asking whether people think having an arcade is a good idea or not - because I'd really like to know whether anybody would actually bother posting games.

I think a general poll on this is a great idea. I for one don't really submit many games to the DC as I can't stay focused on a project for very long.

BUT!

Vitalize! games are generally small arcade style games which shouldn't take too long to make. I'd probably be tempted to actually submit something if there was a TDC arcade.

A TDC arcade would be awesome. I used to play the Klik Academy arcade a lot. It was fun, fighting for high-scores while waiting for someone to say something on the forums.

Also, I'd be happy to make some games for the TDC arcade, if anyone would care to set up an online hi-score board system of some sorts.

I don't think its a good idea myself - people would be content with submitted half-assed mini-games and lose focus on their other projects. Besides which, they'd eventually take up a lot of space.

So then what you do is you set up some sort of standard. If the game doesn't achieve a certain amount of critique and that critique isn't either in ways to improve the game, or simply saying that it's a good game, then take it down. You can't dump an idea just because you fear what kind of threat it might make to a community already huffing it's last breaths. We already get a bunch of half-assed projects submitted to the downloads section, maybe we should take that down too, cause I don't think it's a good either.

I say give it a shot, if some of the admins don't feel accepting a new flood of games, I say thats their fault, get more admins. That's all I'm going to say.

I can see both sides.
If we were to introduce an arcade system, all games would have to be accepted by and admin beforehand (like with downloads). Especially so that admins can test the games work with the hi-score systems and communicate with the system. I have no problem with doing that at all, and it'll mean we don't get games which actually ruin the site (e.g. games created by fake accounts and the sort.. or games that insult other users directly .etc).

I personally would like an arcade system just to add a bit more interactivity between members of the site - which I think is something that has been lacking a lot the last couple of years. The only real interactivity between members we have at the moment seems to be directing insults at each other and arguing with each other over the forums (I know that's only a minority, but you get my point).

I'm all up for it, but like I said, I'd rather do a general poll on the idea and see what everyone thinks first. The poll will be up in a couple of days so we'll see how it goes then.

I never said it was a threat, I just said that I felt it wasn't a good idea. Few people these days talk about the V-Cade and all online games tend to fizzle out - look at Super Ken Senshi... for two whole weeks people were playing it, trying to get high scores - and then suddenly everything just went ker-blammo. And don't get me started on the failed TDC game... though that wasn't Vitalized... but anyway. The good intentions are there, I welcome the enthusiasm but realisation needs to set in too

God I'm in a grumpy mood this evening... I'm off to bed. That's what GOTW cheaters will do to you.

The idea i had before i made this topic would be for a select few people to create games especially for this, the sort of games that a arcadey and people will keep coming back too.

The thing that spawned the idea was thinking about how well Zone runner would work in an arcade if you got bonus time for quickly finishing a level. (and making my own zone runner clone)

however no one goes to Ectoprods any more so making it for that site would be kind of pointless.

The system might work with a few rules.
1. Games must be aproved by admins*
2. Games must be less than 200kb? (making up numbers, never vitalized before)
3. We are required to use a downloadable templet for the online high score
4. Let the community help with a KEEP/NO KEEP voting system. After a certain percentage, the game is dropped. Like them rating system, the voter must justify his/her NO KEEP vote. Check accounts Ip address before voting. No more than one account per IP address and no more than one IP adress per account. Accounts must be at least 6 months old with 5 DC points at least.
5. If no one plays a game for a month, and it has a Keep/No Keep ratio of 1:1 or worse, drop it.

*Admins will have very strict rules on this. If two games of the same type (for example snake) are submitted, admins can turn it down (with exceptions).

I don't know much about how websites work, si the above may be completely useless.

I don't think it's fair to compare exe highscore games to vitalize games. The downloads page moves games down the list into the abyss, and files get lost in harddrives, and it's bothersome to load up exe games. Vitalize games can be a few clicks away, and whoever visits TDC would be constantly reminded that they're there. Sites specializing in arcade games fizzle because all they offer is arcade games, and people eventually move on. If TDC had an arcade, it wouldn't be the only thing that kept TDC alive.

You have a bunch of members sitting on the forums page pressing F5 every minute or so, they could be wasting their time more efficiently.

Games smaller then 200kb might actually encourage spam of minigames.

This has been in my plans for a while, though I've never been to sure if it'd be worth implimenting, I wasn't sure if people would actually use it or not.. I'll probably end up adding all my old games from ClubsCade if we do go ahead with it though, just need to develop an extension to encrypt scores a bit like I did with ClubsCade, nothing too hard to do though

Funny, I was thinking of starting and maintaining an arcade when the Clickzine gets integrated with TDC, where I and other people create arcade games to play every so much time. Flava was also planning to implement that especially so I could do that. But I guess a (two-)weekly or monthly features arcade game is still different than just peoples' own vitalize games and descriptions, no?
