Hmm.. thinking about all the talk about TDC... what is The Daily Click? And more importantly, what should it be?
I've always seen it as a newbie launching place. From everything that seems to have occurred, from every new feature we're getting and the new visitors that come to the site, I think that's the right word for it. I think that's why it's really outlasted all the other klik sites. There's always enough newbies to replace the oldbies, fresh new faces to replace the grumpy old men like Radix and Hayo (no offense)
I think it is time, though, for bigger sites to exist. Those sites can't just go "We're the opposite of TDC"; that's failed too many times. There has to be something different - something for the hardcore game maker, some proper "klik rating board", something else that has a roofle den, where the denizens can piont and laugh at TDC. TDC can't really do what it's not meant to do, but I'm sure a lot of people could.
Gamebuilder and Toastface look like good startups, but both need something new that TDC don't have. As it is, people aren't going to Toastface because it's little more than a public blog. GameBuilder is a good site, but it doesn't have enough activity or enough new features. 1500 GBPs is a fricking lot of money, but strangely enough, not that many people are entering.
So, anyone have any suggestions for this site or any other upcoming sites? I'd like to see a site handle a klik awards ceremony every year. That would be fun, and not much work, since you only need to do it once a year
Disclaimer: Any sarcasm in my posts will not be mentioned as that would ruin the purpose. It is assumed that the reader is intelligent enough to tell the difference between what is sarcasm and what is not.
if we get more 3 or 4 people, we could do this. actually it's your idea i could buy the web space and the domain, someone could code a cool site, and than we keep going with the administration.

"GameBuilder is a good site, but it doesn't have enough activity or enough new features"
Perhaps because it only opened a couple of months ago? And GBP on Gamebuilder are gamebuilder points, only the 1st place wins money. If TDC is going to improve, DavidN and Muz's admin statuses should go to people that are capable. DavidN is capable, but doesn't spend the time here anymore, and Muz... well no offense, but you can't even post a news post correctly.
Edit: Oh, and by the way, all though we struggle sometimes to find news, we always try and get news items that aren't as widely known to the click community, unlike TDC which basically just makes news posts about the site's contents.
Why don't we establish a hall of fame here? Also, there could be a new public news section where anyone can post one announcement per week. Then we enhance the forum system so that it has more of the features of other forums (like embedding links into words as opposed to typing or pasting the full link). We could put in the Vitalize! Arcade we talked about earlier. We could allow people to be fans of members like we can favorite projects. We should be able to search members by date, number of fans, activity, and DC points, search projects by amount of favorites and progress, games, reviews, and articles by views, downloads/ratings, and number of comments. We should be able to look at the download list and see the number of comments and reviews it has. And we need more coders.

Muz, I have a hard time agreeing with what you said, but I can't really put it into words... To a certain extent, every site has its n00bs. TDC does everything right, and I don't see what could be done differently or added that would make it any better. This topic seems to remind me alot of the "TDC is dying" threads... Unnecessary and without a real point.
Also... "hardcore" is another one of those terms which I dislike. It goes with web 2.0.
I kind of see where you're going... but I don't think that it's needed, nor will it go anywhere.
TDC is showing it's age imo. I used to love visiting this site but there aren't any activities anymore. I never attended the competitions TDC had but they were still fun to see. TDC needs a complete make-over to attract new people. It's not rocket-science, every website that has been online for more than 5 years always does a change every once a year to regather the attention of newcomers, but TDC hasn't had any dramatical changes for about 4-5 years...

Yes, exactly what I think. Muz always makes these topics, and they usually end up as flame wars. Id perhaps like to see him make a game. you know, like "Create-games" LOL.
There's ony so much a click gaming site can do. Hall of Fame, Yearly Click awards, and maybe a code repository... that would be cool. This may sound stodgy, but a made-over TDC wouldn't attract my attention. If anything, it would repel me. I don't want to get used to the new layout. Really, it could be said that clicking community sites are mainly for n00bs. When you are an experienced user, you stay behind to help. Yea, it may not be as fun, but that's probably what you're stuck with, no matter what site you're on.
Keep in mind that TDC isn't the community, it's only part of the community. Yes, we're kind of in our own little world here, but that's the way it's always been. There are other sites in the community that gather news, GB as Adam said is an example. Klik-Me was a great news source as well until it fizzled.
