Welcome to ROUND 7, and our FINAL ROUND!
This has been without a doubt the longest competition ever in Klik history, providing many klik games for the community, some even outside the community! I'd like to thank first and foremost those who have participated, this wouldn't have been the tremendous success it has been without you. Thanks to you, the next time the tourey comes around, prizes won't be so hard to come by and will be more plentiful. Next, thank you to TDC for the hosting and the environment which encourages user to use and expand their imaginations and present their ideas to the world in the art form they love: games. Lastly, thanks to clickteam, not only for the donation, but for even creating the tools to aid us in our quest for game development.
Now... onto what you've been waiting for!
FINALISTS:
Bibin
Don Luciano
Chrilley
These three will be making one game each, and at the end of the round, will be awarded first, second and third place!
Total: x/101
*To get these points, your game must have an ending to the game, distinguishable from the rest of the game. The more it closes the plot (if there is one), the better it winds down the gameplay will determine the points.
DEADLINE:
Sunday, the 4th of January, 2009, at 11:59pm (23:59) GMT.
Disclaimer: Any sarcasm in my posts will not be mentioned as that would ruin the purpose. It is assumed that the reader is intelligent enough to tell the difference between what is sarcasm and what is not.
It seems like you've been around longer than a month. O_o (BTW, edit your post when you have something more to say instead of double posting. I'm surprised some of the more mean members haven't pounced on you by now for it. )
Anyway, on-topic, is next year's going to be held at the same time? Half a year of tournament and then a half year break...
Btw Peblo, perhaps you should pm Bib and Chrilley just to make sure they know the final round has started since it has a new name in a new forum. Just to make sure.
Alright peblo I changed my mind about HatMan arcade - can I submit a totally complete version of Hatman named Super HatMan with more levels that's truly finished? Basically a ridiculously expanded HatMan?
Hey peb next time just send the request to me, i'll make a news post out of it later today
Do we have a nice tourey picture/logo i can post next to the news post?
Be sure to follow us on the twitters for the latest and greatest: @dailyclick
Yes please, this defo deserves front page and a timeline entry - best competition i've ever seen and i can't wait to enter next years!! Excellent work, Peblo!
I kinda like the first one I did without your avatar better... >_O But meh. Either's fine. I thought that it might be a bit too wide for the front page...

Hmm... Well I suppose I could try. Last time I tried to upload my hosting provider had a fit and froze my computer for at least 20 minutes. I'll see what I can do. Or you could just use Adam's.
Mark, if you're there, replace your copy of Cliffall! I know U love it, so I am personaly letting you know! There's a new (yet unfinished) level!
for those who don't know what I'm talking about (it's my game U can downlaod at: www.aloan1.com, then click on the american flag, then the game icon to go to the page and download
I am here and yes i do love Cliffall - everyone who played Atari/C64/Speccy games and loved them should try it, and those who never but appreciate gameplay over 3D graphics should also try it. As should those who love platform games, etc....
Maybe look into getting a job to earn moneys?
All them crazy particles and monochrome graphics reminds me of my old game Bloomer. Jumpy sparkles were all the rage back then, I think
Laptop. None of this lame vista-based garbage; I intend on getting a high-end machine (Core 2 duo, DDR3, 250GB SATA HDD) and loading XP on it.
I've got a job. Income is insufficient for my more immediate needs. My main tower PC is out of use until my new PSU arrives, and developing My Distraction has not been fun on emulating a Pentium II under a 300MHz PowerPC G3 running Windows XP.

.....Just played the demo - very neat so far, liking the cut-scene and the sound effects. The graphics are very well drawn if a little generic, though the character design is very likeable indeed. I especially liked the crouching movement, reminds me of my hamster!
Also, especially liked the "Bibin" screen at the beginning - very niiiiiiiiice!!
Why do your game tries to connect to the net? It crashes if i block it with firewall.
I scanned the file for spyware it lists zlob malware and adwares...
It wasn't false, but i think it came from my side, i deleted it, downloaded again, and now it doesnt want to connect and doesnt crashes when i block the application.
So it was my bad, sry...
eeek, i still don't have any maps made, but expect them soon
I just hope to have time for playtest.
Like duke would have said.
It's time to make levels and chew bubblegum, and i m all out of gum
OK... this is it... Breach of madness.
There are several problems, i had to reduce the colors to 32k so the game looks a bit different.
The .ini file must be in C:\Bom\Optiones.ini so make the folder bom and extract there, im sry, i forgot to change that.
If you don't have middle mouse button use E to open doors.
Press F1 during gameplay to see controls. Basics are WSAD movement and mouse to aim and fire.
Previously called Forbidden Zone, you can find an early alpha in my profile too.
I get a 404. The first time Avast! detected on-page malware

I had no problems at all with your game Don. Haven't gotten so far yet though, must do some school stuff before I can go and claim my lost soul again...
Guys, seriously, well done for getting this far! Not played the final games yet but defo will do and can't wait! Kudos guys, kudos - you're where no-one (and i mean no-one) else on this site can actually get to and for that you should be proud of yourselves!
Yeh, dlt it now, works perfectly... those lasers are really problematic indeed...
I hope you will reclaim your soul after learning school stuff
Anyways bibin, i realized why u r game crashes, its cause the online score i think, i played it from the mfa, and got bout 400 score and it wont submit my score to your webscores... it gives some error. But very cool animation at end of game

I'm worried that my game will crash while being judged! It is totally random and I have no idea what's doing it, and while removing the event in the first frame helped it hasn't gone away entirely.
Peblo, if the game crashes, but you can get it working long enough to play through the game, are these crashes going to be blamed on me?

It might end up hurting the score a little bit, like any bug would, but it shouldn't be a big problem. It's also up to each individual judge's reaction too.

Very good. I must apologize, the games are all graded and the scores are in, but there's still some finishing up to do with the tourey that can't be done tonight. The end is near, and you will have in your hands, by 11:59pm GMT tomorrow (tuesday), your scores, your titles- and more.
And yes, this deadline will be met, I'll hold the tourey's entire integrity on it. The wait should be worth it~

BIBIN
GREATEST STRENGTH: Very solid games/engines in the retro style
GREATEST WEAKNESS: Opinion of others seem to influence game making more than it should.
---
Bibin finishes off the tourey very strong, providing what some would call his best game he's made, even among his total colletion of games outside the tourey. My distraction is a very solid game, albiet a bit short.
Black and white proves to be an effective style once again, and the additional effects when falling are awesome. Some of the moves are more or less useless, and the crashing totally annoyed me. After installing MMF2 again things were okay.
---
Nice game as always Bibin. Nice technically, nice graphically, nice audibly, nice all around.
Graphically, it's very easy (or hard) to go wrong with black and white. It either looks good or it doesn't, and here it looks good. Maybe some variance in the tiles for each stage or more tiles overall. The stretching of the body as you fall longer was a nice touch as well.
Technically, it's sound, except in the first frame, which I will say again was the 4th event calling on the 31st frame at the same time as the 1st frame calls on the next frame. Another problem I had was the wall jump, which is difficult to do well in any 2D game. I just find it annoying, it isn't bad, I just don't like how it works, having to switch from left to right quickly.
The sounds were good, as they all were the same style, however, every level had the same music (except of course "blow on the catridge"). If there had been different songs for each stage or each few stages or even a new song for the last stage (to emphasize the fact that it is the last stage, maybe sad music or ragey world-ending music), it would have been a nice touch.
Gamelay was okay. The game was too short (obviously because of the competition setting and the switch from Hatman:TAC to Super Hatman to My Distraction). The levels seemed pretty quick. Again, don't like the wall jump. Maybe if you didn't have to be sliding to do the jump... Would have liked a boss, like you alluded to. The only level that gave trouble was the last one.
Originality, eh... I guess it's original, a bit. That corrupted level was pretty cool, but otherwise it all seems a bit generic. Collect stuff, then go to the end, that's about it.
Appeal is tricky. If you don't like small graphics or black & white, then the game isn't too appealing, now is it? I don't have a problem with either though, so that's all right. It wants to be beaten, but nothing really makes you want to play it after you beat it. It's nice until you finish it.
The end. I like that ending. Hatman cameo, cheap shots, food, high-quality voice acting, animation, it had everything! But it was pretty short and kind of a cop-out from making that boss level. It does end the game however. And you probably would have had a movie even with the boss fight, and I couldn't call that a cop-out. So conflicted...
By the way, yours was the only game I finished. It was good.
---
Graphics: I'm not a fan of black and white, and i'm also fed up with retro but they're still pretty good.
Technical: Some MMF2 sprite resizing and some great level design, it's a basic platformer under it all though
Sound: THIS IS BIBIN WHAT DO YOU THINK IT SOUNDS LIKE? The blow on cartrdige music was cool though.
Gameplay: some of the levels are designed well enough to make it fun to play.
Originality: It does just enough differently to keep things fresh although it has Bibin written all over it
Appeal: People love this kinda thing in the indie gaming community
The end: It ended when i got bored.

CHRILLEY
GREATEST STRENGTH: Amazing abstract ideas
GREATEST WEAKNESS: Creating depth to the games
-----
Chrilley presents another space shooter, under his own style. It ends up the game is more finished than just about all of the space shooters made for the tourey. The actual game itself is hard as hell, and in the 45 minutes I spent playing it I never finished it.
The enemies looked a little ambiguous as to what they actually were, I guess the enemy base designers were awfully creative. The fact that ships can crash into each other adds another layer of stratagy, and the charge shot is a cool addition.
-----
Graphics: They look kinda nice but there isn't a lot to look at
Techical: There wasn't anything spectacular from what i could see, the movement was nice and smooth though
Sound : Good music, basic sfx
Gameplay : It's just too hard to stay alive because you don't shoot fast enough
Originality : Practically none,
Appeal : Almost everyone loves a quick shooter
The END: You'll never get there
-----
Vacilius X. What happened to I through IX? Joke aside, this was pretty cool, this game here.
Graphics all match each other, which is always good. The background is okay. The jets I notice always have the same animation (they also seem to be the same animation as the explosions). I think they were overall pretty okay. The text box could have looked better, maybe. Also, those ships that shoot three ways, I don't really understand what they were supposed to look like.
Technically the game is sound. Although, I couldn't get Turbo Mode to switch off without editing the actual options file. I like the way the jets follow the ship. I don't know what it does, though. If you die by being hit by the last ship in the first set, then the text box appears and you have to go through the conversation before the level ends.
I like those sounds, and that music. I found myself humming it. I especially like the sound of the cannons firing. Maybe voice acting? No dock, just a suggestion.
Gameplay was nice. I was pleasantly surprised by how the game played, assuming that it would just be a slide-along-the bottom-and-shoot-things game. The collision of the ships to kill them was clever. I didn't like how you only get three lives and one hit per life, but I got over it. It's a good thing you only let three of the orange ships on screen at once. Ooh! There should be a mouse-control scheme. I'm not docking points for that, just a suggestion.
Originality not so much. I don't think that it's uncool, just the fact that it doesn't do much of anything different than other space shooters.
The game is appealing. Yes it is. While it may not be so original, it is still fun to play. As I said, I would have like to be able to take more hits, maybe a health bar, but that didn't make me want to stop. So good job there.
The ending, I imagine would be either a cool cutscene that makes me want to play a finished version, or just a cut-off screen saying "Play the full version when I finish this!". I say imagine because I never got to the end. I would have liked to, but I didn't have enough time. But I'll finish it some time, if I don't forget, and if you release a full version, I'd download it. Huh. Now that I think about it, I'll use this ending thing then to mean how I felt after I ended my play session. I felt satisfied, and excited.
Good job.

DON
GREATEST STRENGTH: Epic stories and game ideas
GREATEST WEAKNESS: Translating the epicness to a game form
-----
Graphics: dark and moody but not all that great really.
Technical: nice lighting, the title screen was as slow as hell, WTF
Sound: a 3 second loop and sound getting killed noises, thats all i heard.
Gameplay : there is probably more to it but i just got killed by a mob of zombies as soon as i stepped outside, and this happened 3 times before i gave up.
Originality : Ive seen this kind of thing loads in click game and I always end up hating them. It's not terribly original either.
Appeal :if you like being killed by zombies you might like it.
The end: I DIDNT PLAY IT TO THE END.
-----
Don totally suprised me with this game, the intro looked slick (sick too), and arguably successfully presents the most eerie atmosphere in a game created for the tourey. I actually never came across an error or bug, other than I was really bad at opening doors.
The actual game killed me, I got pretty far, but it just ended up being too hard. The use of betatesters would present the difficulty problem ahead of time. The effects of the game were fun to look at, and added to the atmosphere even more.
-----
Graphics are okay, except they're all too dark. I had to boost the contrast to the top to be able to see them on my LCD monitor. The man's arms aren't animated very well with the knives. Zombies don't animate except for turning around. Everything's too dark. It makes it hard to see anything. Blood dripping is fine though.
Technically good. I like the flashlight. I don't know how to mak a flashlight, besides semi-trasparent white objects or semi-transparent dark border objects. Nothing else is so special though.
Was there any music? I just heard sound effects and weird wind howling/zombie moaning stuff. The sound effects are decent, I guess, but again, nothing special.
Gameplay... not so much. The knives don't defend me at all, the zombies come too quickly and too many to be able to save yourself with the pistol, the distribution of the hot keys is awkward, the darkness makes it hard to know where to go, you move too slow even with the dash. I don't like it much.
Originality, it's like other horror games, but I don't play horror games, so this is original to me. But, what horror game doesn't have zombies pistols, darkness, rain, and blood? Cliche.
Appeal is not for me. I just don't like horror games so much. Not because they're scary, but because they're all the same, or boring, or ugly, or too dark, or something. For this it's because it's too dark, too slow, too difficult.
The ending I didn't get to because I didn't make it past the first level, one, because I didn't have time, and two, because it is not a game I like.

Now. I'll have to figure out how to get the prize money to you guys. Sweet deal, you guys are freaking amazing for making all those games. TDC is now a little fatter thanks to you!
You may contact me for any discrepencies in the scores. Chances are the judges won't mind to discuss the scores more if you would like to ask them about something too.
Well guys, the Tourey is finally over. And so-
THE END.

WOW, well done guys! And especially well done to Bibin for winning, and especially well done to Peblo for organising the contest, the prize money and the judges (who all did a fantastic job!) - this is going on my website tonight!
Congrats, Bibin, you're the best competitive kliker of the year!
Also, good job for the rest of you, who actually have the endurance to compete and judge
