As Chrilley says, you want your game noticed, put it in your forum sig, make a project page, tell people about it, ask an admin to frontpage it, make it worthy of attention. Changes to the system will do absolutely nothing.
...and if everybody did that we'd be in the same situation again. I don't care what happens, as long as it's fairer than what happens already. Look at the numbers of downloads just slipping down the list with out an official rating.
Don't aim for perfection- you'll miss the deadline

Maybe you'll figure out what went wrong when someone submits Desktop Turd Manager 2009 and you see it at the top of the Top Downloads list on the front page because their friend rated it 5/5 as a joke.
Most people here know that a lot of members give 5/5 ratings to any game they quite enjoyed, rather than reserving it for truly special games. I imagine that the Top Downloads list would be full of recently added games that have yet to have their ratings evened out by other opinions.

It's almost as if the 'top 10 games ever' list is more important than rating and playing new games. Honestly, the best games have had enough recognition with out having to be placed on the top ten list.
Flawed rating system or not, I believe that something has to change.
I do agree with this one. I suggested something a while back that may have fixed the ratings/top downloads system we have now. You might know this feature as the "Favourites" you see on your profile, but the current system (with no effect on top downloads) was not at all what I suggested. It could've potentially replaced the Top Downloads algorithm and unbelievably biased "Recommended by The Daily Click" stars given out by admins, but it was watered down because adding new stuff is better than fixing what's broken You can check it out below: http://www.create-games.com/forum_post.asp?id=235490&s=45
Ratings are pretty frivolous given how a game can technically be rated without actually having played it. Not that I'm calling foul play or anything but ratings are a poor reflection of the overall quality of the game, come to think of it reviews are too.
Actually most of the comments on game submissions are pretty useless too.
Before I get shot, what if there were a fantasy site with a fantasy system where every game had a frame/code built into it that allowed one to rate the game once they beat it (and only the first time), and that rating would then be sent to the server? Then no one could rate it without playing it. Too bad that can't happen here. Maybe with DC Arcade games? Get over a certain score and you can rate?
well it can happen. to an extent. IP log people who have at LEAST downloaded the game. so if you havent downloaded it you cant rate or comment or review a game. that still means one could get away with actually not playng the game but people are less likely to go out of the way to download something just so they can be mean, then just delete the file. some games are rather large too.

Easily abusable. Someone tossing a mean comment could just click the download button to get IP logged, cancel the download, then put in a comment.
Like the '4 word limit' feature, this doesn't stop anyone who's determined enough.

I think a mini-site should be created and a couple of reviewers assigned to write small reviews of games released here, as well as old ones. Maybe a "KlikCast" or "Clickzine" spin-off site.
