(Stolen from the description at YouTube, because I'm lazy)

Virtually ten years ago, when I was 16, I joined what is known as the Click Community. Throughout the next ten years I worked on many projects. Some of which have been released, some abandoned, some lost and some never before seen. Some of them were bad, some were good, but all the projects were an example of my evolution as a game developer.

Also during this time, websites came and went, but I managed to get a position as an administrator for a site called The Daily Click (www.create-games.com). After six years working for it, I chose to leave, partly for personal reasons. I've also had an editorial position at other sites, sadly now defunct, but they include Klik-Me, The Clickzine, Kliketty Klik, a stint at Total Klik and at Cellosoft.net Lite.

I personally feel I have achieved a lot during this ten year period and evolved, not only as a game developer, but as a person. I'm 26 now and have changed a lot, for the better. Looking back at conflicts I can see how they may have started, and my role in extending them. However, the past is the past, and what you'll see in this video, if you decide to watch it, are many examples of my klikking past.

So, to commemorate Ten Years Of Circy I decided to collect footage of everything I've done. From my very early work to projects currently in progress, this video features my own personal evolution as an amateur games developer.

I hope you enjoy watching it and welcome any comments.

They all look the same to me. The graphics have gotten better but the animation really hasn't changed in 10 years.

There was much more than I realised you had made. Pretty much everything before Supar Dupar bouncy guy.
I guess there was a time before TDC.

You surely have accomplished quite a bit! Lots of those games looked very entertaining, and you definitely have a unique and recognizable style, not just graphics-wise...

Congrats on 10 years, Circy!

Your games appearances haven't really changed much over the years. It's a style you've been pretty consistent with over the years. Also like me, you seem to make nothing but platformers lol.

I know I've stuck with the same style, I just love thick outlines, but I have tried to make projects based on different styles, ie, Santas Christmas Party and Chuckles The Fruit Collector.

Boothman, I do feel I've evolved over the years. Anybody will evolve over time. My early games (Sleep Dreams, Gribble Wacky World), I asked people to make engines for me (and some graphics too). Its the small things that you need to notice, but I can kind of see why you feel I haven't evolved much... in a way.

Thanks for the comments guys I know I'm not the only klikker to be online for 10 years, but it is an achievement, a milestone, no matter how small - like celebrating your 18th or passing your exams. I'm proud to have been here for this time - despite flame wars and arguments.

You will find that your improvement is more noticeable to yourself than to others.
For instance if you make a really advanced level editor for your game it wont be noticeable by just playing it.

The developer always knows the quirks of his own works. I've made large strides in eventing, but my graphics skills haven't progressed much so it's hard to notice.

I must be really old, I played about every game in that video. My mind seems to be playing games with me, is that really the chronological order?

I am tempted to make a video like this (12 years of Hayo) but looking at my stuff only my last game is really worth it.

Cool video! I wish I had all my old creations still. I started with K&P back in 1994 or 1995 or whenever it was released, I lost that stuff years ago through getting new computers, HD crashes, etc. THis was also before CD burners existed. THe best I had was a zip drive, which frequently got the click of death

I've been at making games for about 11 years now and I'm still not that great at it.

I was suprised how much you've done, but then again it's 10 years and also it's quite a feat trying to actually hold on to all your stuff. I have like nothing of all the old little games I used to make, which makes me a bit sad. I remember a lot of those games.

I also agree about the development, it's the subtle things you will notice but pretty much the only thing others think about is graphics and effects. You know when you've made some major breakthroughs when you first start making custom movements and really working on coding things more efficiently. And creating your own developing tools for your own games. But no one else sees that, sadly.

Making a video montage of all your old games.. that's just sad

I'm kidding, of course. Nice video (albeit a little self-indulgant?) I've been around here for probably just as long as you but I couldn't fill a 9 minute video with my works quite so easily. A lot of those games look very similar to each other, if you don't mind me saying. Maybe there's more underlying gameplay than is shown in the video - I don't know, I was away from the community for a while and didn't play a lot of your older games. And wow, Gribble looks way too similar to SAAE. Right down to the platform tile graphics? I say. Sam the Slug looks great, like the kind of game I'd actually pay for if it were available for my phone.

You contributed much more than just games to the community - let's not forget Circy's work as editor here and his Convention presentations

Lets see... the games that were released in the video (by the way, they aren't featured in chronological order as I couldn't remember lol):

Bigdum Notepad (a game made in an hour, but its hard to find. It's also not brilliant)
Basic (and rubbish) platform engine
Supar Dupar Bouncy Guy
Dance Of Death (4 level demo)
Wibble Wacky World: 1st Edition
Wibble Wacky World: Convention Edition
Smidgets X
The Santa Claus Project
Zone Runner
Zone Runner 2
Wibble Wacky World: Scribbly Edition (1 level demo, as part of Euphoric Rush Abandonware Pack Mark 1)
Sam The Slug
Santa's Christmas Cracker
Sleep Dreams (abandonware)
Santa's Christmas Party
Santa's Christmas Cracker 2
Mr Stump's Dentures (I found that someone made a video walkthrough of this game at YouTube... someone called FoxBlitz)

I have to admit to objecting to the "self promoting" and "self-indulgent" comments though. Are you saying that everyone who makes a video about their upcoming games / previous games are self promoting/indulgent? That applies to the entire community of game-makers who, like me, are proud of their work. It's not as if I make a video of all my work all the time. It's a once off, since it's ten years. Other people might want to let their milestones slip quietly by, and theres nothing wrong with that. There are others, like me, who are proud of the achievement and want to mark it - and I don't see anything wrong in that either.

And Mr Nimmo, didn't you make a similar video of o3 softwares projects, both finished and unfinished?

I do respect all your comments and opinions, but I am allowed to defend myself and hope you don't take offence at my words

Yeh I don't see a problem with releasing videos for games. It's probably just the way you called it "Ten Years of Circy" and bigged yourself up in the description. It's best left to others to commemorate your work, if they feel it is of note.

Yea, I did. That's what I was kidding about when I said "that was just sad". I hope you didn't take that seriously because it must have sounded awfully hypocritical if the joke wasn't understood.

Just ignore my comment about self-indulgance. I'll just say that I don't think it's necessarily bad within a certain degreee. I don't want to ruin your thread by turning it into a debate. I didn't want to just say "hey nice vid" because it must have taken a long time to make.

http://www.create-games.com/forum_post.asp?id=163436

By the way, I made the O3 video because we were pretty much done as a game creation group; we'd since moved on to other creative things or working independantly. I made the video to celebrate the years we'd spent working together which were now over, so I understand your wanting to make a compilation video to recall the good times. In fact, with the community shrinking and the good old days definitely over, I'd like to see more people making videos about what they made (my Competition Idea sense is tingling..!) Anyway, I hope you stick around and finish some of those games off

I am probably one of a very small few to not know you, Circy, or even spoken to you (i cannot remember ever engaging in direct conversation with you on these forums), however i think 10 years is a hell of a long time in gaming terms and you should celebrate it in the way you seem fit - for the record, i'd have done something similar too.

And why shouldn't you indulge in some self-celebration? It was tasteful, IMO, and served only to mark 10 years of making games, not to celebrate "Circy day", or some crap like that. Kudos to you man, here's to 10 more years!
