I don't think you are being fair in the news section. You are giving exposure to games you prefer. And not always based on quality. I mean, it's your site. I'm just saying it's not fair.

How about this: You DC- Mail an adminstrator to show up your game on the frontpage if you think your game is good enough. But wait, isn't that thing already availible?
I think it's because they don't see all the good games out there. They just put up the good games that they do see. So it's subject to bias from rumors, screenshots, hype, size, free time, etc.
Of course, the mighty Admin King, ShadowCaster once said that all those games with a good description and a screenshot should be on the front page, but do the little admins follow? Only if they feel like it.

everyone thinks their games are good enough, when truthfully, they aren't.

if we put every single game possible on the frontpage it would damage the novelty of it a bit. and then people could post a description and screenshot for a really crap game and by that definition it would have to go up.
If you feel that a game is really great but has been ignored, why don't you dc-mail an admin? I'd hope that they would actually have a look at it, but generally good games have at least two screenshots and a reasonable description. Downloads like that usually make the front page anyway...
Well my downloads here always feature screenshots and more that decent descriptions. And I got solid reviews of my games on other sites. I was a bit surprised Ball Blazing Fantasy got ignored since it is a TOP DOG and HOTU and it got 8/10 at GameHippo. I won't mention other reviews of it in QBasic community since I know you don't give shit about QBasic community.
DC the admin seems like pestering. But then again, I just did that with this post. Crap.
<a href="http://lachie.phatcode.net">The Maker Of Stuff</a>
IMHO, HOTU probably has a contract with Clickteam to give undeserved uber-high reviews on Click game. Either that or the people who designed the games wrote reviews for their own game.
Have you seen FactorX??? That game got a friggin hot dog rating, when I've seen far better games with lower ratings. FactorX was something with a lot of effort into it, true, but it was helluva sloppy and hardly even fun.
And then there's The Spirit Engine. Don't get me wrong, it's a good game, but the description exaggerates it waaaaaaaay too much. "The quality of graphics, soundtrack, and unique gameplay combined make The Spirit Engine one of the highest quality freeware games ever made, and as a bonus it will take you quite a while to finish." *gag*
Sure, TSE is superb by klik standards, but I've seen much better games on HOTU that deserves better ratings. I only found that the graphics on the first few parts to be worthy of such exceptional praise. And the gameplay just got dull and repetitive after a few levels.
In other words, I consider any reviews on Click games on HOTU far less seriously than I consider the Grammys. Same goes with GameHippo.
No offense meant of course, my dear Lachie. It's just that although your references are famous, they just plain suck. I agree that if you were to be mentioned on such sites, you should at least be on the front page of TDC.

TDC is different to most community sites in that the main pages features game submissions by its members. Occasionally, news is posted out of the klik world, but lets face it - we have Klik Academy, Klik-Me, Total Klik to deal with collecting news. If all community sites were like that, then you'd get a bit bored of flicking between them all and finding out they have the same news articles on the front page.
So thats why we generally include stuff sent by you lot. And yes, we are willing to put games on the front page, on the basis that they include at least one of the following:
a. they look good
b. the concept is new
c. it isn't a demo
d. it isnt hosted by some rubbish server
e. it DOES have screenshots
f. it DOES have a good description
g. admins are NOT asked to put it on the front page
h. its actually a KLIK game, and not a darkbasic thing
And regarding what Pete Mattress said - if all the games submitted at DC were on the front page, then there'd be little point to having a main page. Rubbish games will most likely not stand a chance of getting on the main page, but we probably would feature at least average games, which show great potential. And definately we'd feature hyped games, and good games. Its the way of the world, you see.
Just like games magazines. Their main review.. the BIG game of the month is featured, and it usually gets the highest score. The rest of the games don't get mentioned on the front page, and they are consigned to single, or half pages near the back of the magazine. Its just life dude.
I thought DaveC was banned. Anyway, you wanna know how I knew Mr Socko and DaveC are both one and the same? The avatars give it away. The avatar used here, and the one at Total Klik are on the same URL (bet you'll change them so they're hosted on different servers). Dumbshoes.
I'll see if I can organise a perm ban; maybe you'll finally take the hint that you're not wanted here.
Circy, points (b), (c), (g), and especially (h) didn't apply for my terms of being put on the front page. I've seen quite a few nice non-Klik games up there and even more games with old overused concepts.
But then I guess you got too many requests for games on the front page after I wrote that article on getting more downloads. Ah, what a fun article that was. Shen was all Ashmaned for a few days after I wrote that .

WHy not just have when a person submits a game, and its in the Pending list waiting for admin Approval, why don the admins just download the game, and give it a rating out of 5. if its a 4 or 5, then they put it on the frontpage.
It's not that easy, C.C. You see, TDC-ers generally make more games than they even spend time on the forums. It astounds me how fast they can mass-produce these games.
Asking the admins to check each and every one of them is like asking someone to review every new commercial game in a major store. Just look at all those new games there!
I bet most of the admins just click a link to make sure it works before accepting it. If we were to ask the admins to check every game thoroughly, we'd need more admins and more front page space.

i almost always play a game before i put it on the frontpage. i didn't with that sonic one, and that was a mistake
