How can i get a file with an extension (eg. '.sss') to be defaulted to open with my program?
and also, can you associate files with that extension to have a certain icon?
thanks, ben

For just yourself, or other users? If it's just for yourself there's something in 'folder options' assuming you're using windows. For your users, it involves registry-messing-around-with so you're probably best to do it in the installer. Ask first though.
For the second question, yes for you, yes in theory for other users although I wouldn't know how off the top of my head.

You should be able to do that with ActiveX (The Common Dialog object).

It's rather simple if you use some kind of installer, then you can just 'throw' it into the registry.
I don't know if there is an registry editor extension, but if there is, you could do the same.
Just open regedit and look into HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT, it has a key with an extesion and a filehandler for the extension.
If you have winzip installed, take a look at your ".zip" extension. Just follow everything that has to do with winzip, it's pretty self explaining.
