FOLLOW ALL OF THE FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS, OR THE GAME WILL NOT WORK

UNLOAD ALL FILES INTO THE SAME FOLDER. SHOULD HAVE A MUSIC FOLDER
NEXT TO THE SAVE FOLDER NEXT TO Blobquest.exe NEXT TO Blobquest.gam
DO NOT RENAME ANY OF THE FOLDERS ON PENALTY OF DEATH

MAKE SURE THE FILE DIRECTORY HAS NO SPACES IN IT TO THE MUSIC FOLDER
BASED ON HOW THE MCI OBJECT WORKS, IT WILL NOT LOAD MUSIC IF THE PATH
HAS ANY SPACES.
EXAMPLE: C:/games/blobquest/music = GOOD
EXAMPLE: C:/games folder/blob quest/music = BAD

TO MINIMIZE CRASHING, GO INTO THE PROPERTIES OF "BlobQuestDemo.exe", AND UNDER COMPATABILITY, MAKE SURE WINDOWS 95 MODE IS ACTIVATED. THIS WILL REDUCE CRASHING BY ~99%.

And now that you've hopefully read that....
I present Blobquest, the Demo!
Yah so I got a little fed up with the lack of feedback from anyone betatesting, so I figured now that sitesled is *kinda* back up, I'd open it up to the public.

This is Demo/Beta version of my work in progress. This is hardly finished, and the whole project is maybe 20-30% done. I'd mostly like to hear back from people about stuff that needs changing; don't just whine a level is too hard, tell me whats hard about it.

So if you download this without telling me what you thought of it, feel very very guilty. Oh and a dire curse upon your family and descendants for eternity.

Included with the game is a 100% completion save slot (slot 3). You can use that to test out the rest of the game that you cannot access linearly yet.

Controls:
Ctrl= Sword
Use this with UP or DOWN arrows for high/low attacks

Enter (on ground)= Shield
Hold this down to use your shield.

Enter (in the air)= Hook
Once you have the grappling hook, press Enter in midair to shoot it.

Shift= Jump
With double jump upgrade, hit shift again in mid-air

Up + Enter= Cast a Spell
This casts the selected spell you have

Down + Enter= Enter Blobroll
Roll around on the ground once you have the upgrade'

Up= Use object
Use UP to control save points, enter doors, or hit switches.

Escape= Enter Menu
When in the menu, use UP/DOwN arrows to navigate. You can change your selected spell in the Menu, once you have one.

F= Enter Debug Mode.
This displays your FPS and #Active Objects

This beta, if completed, will take you up to 17% completion; 5 Health Powers, 3 Sword Powers, 2 Spells, and 2 Abilities. The demo is over after you finish the Waterfall Caves.

And I STRESS: ACTIVATE WINDOWS 95 COMPATABILITY MODE.

rofl!

I don't really like how you artificially boost the difficulty by not putting save points before bosses. I'll let you know more if I have the patience to go through the caves again.

Supposedly there's something magic about low resolution combined with huge stages. Personally, I don't agree. My computer is pretty much crashed and yet I experience very little FPS difference (about none, actually) when using 520x340 instead of 320x200. 320x200 (or whatever this game uses) is so damn claustrophobic! But hey, that's just me, 99 % of TDC will probably rejoice.

Apart from that, I liked the game. A bit buggy here and there (like odd semiboss respawn and stuff), and I kind of got a "WTF now"-feeling in that cave in the beginning. Probably as a result of the small window size. But it was fun to play, even though I didn't get very far by myself.

Also, I didn't quite get the point of having so many moves and spells you could do, since I don't think it suits a platform game. But that's probably just me, too. Didn't ruin the game or anything, just made it slightly confusing.

@noyb, theres a save point before EVERY boss. Just not mini-bosses. You must not have gotten far at all O_O

And yes, the 320x200 is mostly so it suits well for resized screens. Maximize it!

I tried to keep the gameplay as simple as possible; nothing more complex then a castlevania or metroid game as far as special moves and spells are concerned...

Do tell if anyone actually plays the thing to the end. It gets ALOT more fun once you get to the forest and beyond. Everything before that is just intro kinda stuff. And I'm particulary proud of the boss fight with the Dead King.

Oh, and if you are having problems with the first miniboss (the first lizard thingy) as other people are, try this:

Run up to him, hit him with your sword as fast as you can until he dies.

-_-, unless you have 1 health thingy left, you can kamikaze him in under 2 seconds.

Ermmm typo

Actually is 320x240

Posted by Pixelthief 7th June, 2006

Ok, so uh, if anyone has actually played it, it would be very nice to get some useful feedback.

As far as I can tell, of the maybe 15 people to play it so far, nobody has played up even through the first sanctum. I mean hell, if my game isn't worth playing for an hour, why should I finish it to make it even longer? Now gib feedback

On a related note, I updated my avatar

Plz finish it! its just a little too hard. thats why no one has finished it. ill have another go at that 1st sanctum boss now.

Posted by DELETED!_by account owner 7th June, 2006

plz make a save point closer too him lol :S

Posted by Pixelthief 7th June, 2006

Hrmm if the sanctum miniboss (the mirror) is too hard, I could hit him with a nerfstick.
He's pretty easy if you just use magic and your shield, but I suppose I could reduce his speed a little.

Posted by Pixelthief 7th June, 2006

Oooooooor.....
I could make the game twice as easy and do save points before each miniboss globally.

I uploaded a new, easier version. Simply redownload the file off sitesled, and it should be the newest version. Less monsters in some areas, lower HP on sanctum monsters, save point before miniboss.

nj

so yarr, what did you think of difficulty on the diff areas?
Cuz once I have that adjusted, I'll go back to finishing it

Posted by DELETED!_by account owner 9th June, 2006

The difficulty of the game now i think is perfect. cant wait for the final game.

Posted by Pixelthief 9th June, 2006

well consider me 25% done then

Posted by Pixelthief 9th June, 2006

Oh and if you wanna check it out, there 1 area you probly didn't get to yet.
Theres some secret caves on the right side of the cliffs, just below where you enter to go on the path to the city.

Try dropping straight down on the right side of the save point in the very middle of the map; You'll find one of them secret clouds you can activate with a down-slash.

Waterfall caves were the last thing I finished; Theres 1 hidden HP powerup in it.
