Has anyone seen the gameboy micro? Its tiny and looks similar to the ds in my opinion, i wonder what the graphics will be like? I wont be buying this console, i doubt the graphics will be special, so you'd just be buying it for its size!
Yes it is a prototype but its probably around what it will look like in the end. They said that it will be about the size of 3 dvd cases stacked up. Also some interview said that the final product will be even smaller than the prototype.
Theres nothing not to like about it yet though. It focuses alot on online play which is absolutely FREE unlike xbox live or any other console online service. And you gotta love the fact that it can download all NES, SNES, and N64 games on it. Best of all, one of the opening titles is going to be Smash Bros Online.
Anyway, don't judge it just yet. In the coming months they are going to show why it is so revolutionary. they never showed the controller yet for a reason.
Oh and for the GameBoy Micro, yea its just a smaller GBA pretty much. About the size of a cell phone. This time, even the screen is smaller. From what I've heard, reading in game text is still just fine. The backlighting is even better than the SP, but battery life is a little lower.
This curse is more cursedly curse-worthy than any curse that's ever cursed you!
Digital: Your opinion is wrong. The Revolution is a black rectangular thing. That's where the similarity ends. It looks more like an ultramodern DVD player than a PS2, which itself looked like old IBM hardware.
I'm not going to waste my money on a new gameboy/playstation/gamecub/ when a new, better one will just come out in a few months.
I'm saving money up for college, and I don't intend to blow it all on a cheap system that lasts a couple months.
No offense to anyone, of course.
I bought the original Gameboy, Gameboy Colour, and Advanced, and they were all the same thing with slightly better graphics. I'll stick to the classic games, and to my Atari.
Fine Garbage since 2003.
CURRENT PROJECT:
-Paying off a massive amount of debt in college loans.
-Working in television.
Wow, I didn't realise the PSP wasn't out in the UK yet. I've been playing Lumines on mine for a couple months now. It's an addictive game. When it comes out, I reccomend shelling out the cash for a huge memory card (mine is 512MB). It serves as a decent mp3 player, and the screen clarity is great for pictures and video clips.
As for the Gameboy Micro and Nintendo's "Revolution", I think I've already made my opinions quite clear in the PS3 vs. XBox360 thread.
I just had a look at the gameboy micro on yahoo and it looks rediculous, how can any person see that tiny screen or press the buttons comfortably?
Honestly the 1st design is small enough for me and my hands arent the biggest in the world.
also why no controller ports on the revolution? are the controllers infra red?
Oh i see.
Actually, those are the same shape as the gamecube controllers and memory cards. Interesting.
I must admit the revolution looks rather stylish. It must appeal to the japanese more than anywhere else since they love their microsized gadgets. Thats probably one reason why the xbox is doing so poorly over there.
Personally i don't care for looks, i want good games.
It has bacwards compaitability with the GCN controller, so you can use your GC controllers as well but the REV will have brand spanking new controllers which will be wireless and theres also a little secret about the controllers that nintendo havent realesed yet, should be good.
The receiver is integrated. It would be pretty stupid to have to plug a reciever for a first-party launch peripheral.
Those two slots look like they're for GCN memory cards (I've read that the Rev uses a new flash card for storage), and those are clearly GCN controller ports. It's likely there will be some third-party periphs that'll make use of them (rather than having their own batteries, mainly), but my guess is they're just there to provide total backwards-compatibility for the GCN. Even if the new controllers can do everything the GCN ones can, things like dance pads or Konga bongos aren't likely to come out immediately in Revolution form, and with the alternate ports they won't have to anyway.
I know thats not quite what you said Radix, but the ps2 had lots of launch peripherals that were sold seperately, those blue stands cost 10 pounds over here, biggest ripoff ever.
du u mean the blue stand for the ps2? my brother went and got the one for it lying down, why the hell would you need one for it lying down? He did intend to buy the vertical stand.
that verticle stand will make your playstation eat games. I've had it happen to me, NEVER put your PS2 on the side, it's not designed to be that way, even though sony insists it is.
My ps2 is on its side with no stand, next to my tv and gamecube there is no room for it to lay flat. Ive had no problems with it for the three years ive had it.
It's weird that people go on about how they have had to replace their consoles, Maybe they should have treated it better? even my old Amstrad cpc works fine and 99% of the cassette games work first time.
Old consoles are fucking tanks. I bought a bunch of old consoles last week (2 Master system I's, a Megadrive, a NES and a SNES) and they all work wonderfully. Nowadays they can have disc read errors or bad lenses out of the box.
It doesn't help that people treat them badly though. I swear I'm the only person on the PLANET that treats CDs with respect. I've never borrowed a game from someone that wasn't covered with monster scratches, and I've never gotten one back from someone after lending it that didn't look like they'd attacked it with steel wool.
MicroGB... naghhhh!
I saw it on ign and i think it sucks!
I do not understand why Nintendo is doing such huge marketing errors!!!
They spent a lot of cash for their new handheld Nintendo DS which is great
and now they try to sell something that is worse than their old GBA!!! Boing!
Revolution is going to be a huge failure as Gamecube was and as Nintendo DS seems to
be (i own a DS and i think it's great great great! but they do not support it enough...).
Since GBA and SNES, the Nintendo is losing money... Do you remember N64? Do you remember Virtualboy? HUGE FAILURES! Nintendo is still there because of GBA and instead of supporting the new GBA (=nintendo DS)they try to create new consoles and sell crappy stuff... I'm very dissapointed from Nintendo. I'm sure that is going to close like SEGA did.
Btw i think that ps3 is going to be the next best seller; revolution and xbox360 have no chances at all. I will certainly buy it -one and a half year after its first release of course to a reasonable price.
oh salt, i wasnt aware that you were a marketing genius, i mean, revolution and xbox360 have no chance at *all* you say? WELL now, i better listen to you then. of course if YOU say its going to do bad, then its going to fail miserably. you know, seeing as how youre GOD OF FUCKING EVERYTHING. shut up, fanboy
Well... let me see...
When N64 came out it "conquered" the 2nd place after PS1 with the remarkable number of 250,000 sales in Europe against 1,000,000 of PS1!!!!! Yay! wHEN PS2 and DREAMCAST came out it was removed from the market because it did not sale... XBOX was overrunned by PS2 too and... Oh my God! I'm a marketing genius!!! OUAAAAAAAAAAAAAO!
PS: @RADIX - HEY MAN, go wear a starwars suite with cans and stuff AND THEN talk about 12 year old ones, you weirdo!!!
Explain how something that makes a profit can be considered a failure.

Wow... you guys take it all so seriously. Whether you like it or not, Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft are going to release whatever they will. If you don't like it, you simply don't.
It's not like the world's going to change after you type less than 100 characters .
Hell ya, from a software support perspective, the N64 was a failure, but it still sold well, and had some great games.
Anyway, Salt, you're an idiot, please do shut up.
It makes perfect sense to remake the GBA.
1. It STILL sells like hotcakes
2. It's got a freakin' HUGE amount of games avaliable
3. The DS can't hook up to a cube the same way the gba does (though maybe it will for the rev.)
4. Parts are cheaper, meaning the newer system can be built cheaper than the old one: which brings me to
5. Bigger profits for Nintendo as they continue to sell GBA's to those who don't have/broke theirs at a PROFIT (GBPocket/GBA still the only consoles not sold at a lost)
6. So nintendo can laugh at idiots like you, all the way to the bank.
-----------------
As for your DS comments, just wait; I personally get the impression that the DS wasn't exactly ready to be released when they did, but they couldn't pass up the chance to beat sony to market, meaning that the developers didn't get a whole lot of time to work on things, meaning; there aren't many games avaliable. But back to my point on this, I figure that the DS will explode once the Rev is closer.
You seem to think that the DS is the new gameboy, well do you see the word "gameboy" anywhere on the system? No? Well that's cause IT'S NOT A GAMEBOY! The next version of the GB should be out sometime next year, and I'm expecting that THIS system will be Nintendo's answer to the psp. (or so they will claim, anyway).
As for the Rev, I've been hearing rumors of a 200 - 150 US dollar price, which I'm betting would be about half of what the PS3/X360 will be. At that price, I may pick one up on launch day; and I'm willing to bet that I wouldn't be the only one.
- Revolution is not going to be a failure.
N64s, i thought, were pretty poor. upto Ģ50 for a game meant that i only ever bought two games. This was also because i got one for my birthday 2 months before they left the scene.
A cool new thing i found out about the REV, apparently all past first-party games are going to be FREE to download.........
I'm not sure wether this is official or not, but from all the n ews items ive been reading on the REV it seems so.
Why would Nintendo give away all its first party games for free when they have virtually no third-party support? That would be stupid.
[edit] "all PAST first party games" ... that I can almost believe, but still I think Nintendo would charge at least a small fee like $10 just to cover the bandwidth and bring in some extra cash.
Yeah, it's only the old console games that'll be free. And it WILL be free, both the downloading and the online multiplay. And wireless, I think. Which will be freaking nuts. Not a hundred percent on that one though.
Nintendo wouldn't save a baby from drowning for free. The way they re-sell old games (on e-Reader cards, then on regular Gameboy cartridges, as extras in other games, etc), I really have a hard time believing they'll just hand out all their classics just to promote their new system. I mean, if they did that, new game sales would suffer, and that's where console makers tend to make their money.
I remind you the EMULATORS... These programs have already given the oportunity to every single pc-user to play NES/SNES/GB games for free. I think that nobody would pay for a service for free-dl-of-old-games; but for a "free" * service like that in the REV... it sounds attractive.
* free = i assume that they will add the cost of this service in the total cost of the console
so where did you get this info that the games were going to be free? Everyplace I've checked still says that they don't know if they are going to charge or not. But hey, if they do charge, I think they should pack in a couple "legacy" downloads with the system, like 10 free game downloads or something.
I don't remember, we had a discussion about it on another forum and everyone brought in a bunch of links. I remember reading that N are trying to convince 3rd party developers to re-release their old ROMs on the online service for free, which implies the first party ones will be free also. As Salt [Black Wizards] says, emulators would have killed off such a service preemptively. And Nintendo really needs a killer app.
If the Wi-Fi online service is going to be free, there's no reason for not releasing the games which aren't doing anything anyway for free. Assuming they're just ROMs, that is. But there's no reason they'd have to be ported, there are already NES-on-chips and the GBA and DS already include the equivalent of a SNES and N64 core.
The cost'd be offset by flash card sales to some extent for big users of the service I suppose.
If emulators were such a threat to the sale of old games, how come companies keep selling their old games? Midway Arcade Classics, The Megaman Anniversary Collection, all the GB versions of old NES games, and those cheesy joystick things that plug into your TV and play Atari games... these things make money. Emulators are great when you're poor, but then you grow up and realize that playing console games on your PC is pretty ghetto. I wouldn't mind paying a reasonable price to play some of the classics on a new system, and I'm not alone. In fact, if Nintendo made a console that did nothing *but* play old games, it would probably be great for them. Nothing but profit. Not that I'd prefer that they do that, but I'm just saying they could.
Classic packs are one thing, but it's not worth porting the majority of games. Take all the Twinbee-style vertical shooters on the NES. Totally not worth buying. But fun for ten minutes when free.
It comes down to whether or not the Rev has the hardware on-board.
You know what's even more ghetto? My Game-Box Station. It's a 350mhz with a Rage II (boo hiss) and a ten gig drive filled with "games". It's got a little front end type deal that asks you what system you want play, when it boots, all controlled by my pad. It's just bigger than an Xbox, and probably eats twice the power, but it is hooked up to my TV.
Kirby: i meant all the first-party nintendo games from NES/SNES/N64 gen would be free
Its not official i dont think, but its highly likely. many websites and newspapers are going around saying this, ill go looky for a few links.
Radix: Its WIFI and Online ready FREE out of the box, that i know is official.
"George Harrison(Nintendo Vice President): Well, we can use it in a variety of ways. We've used some of the older games already as little bonuses, either as bonus gifts or hidden in levels of games. Certainly for the first-party titles we'll be making some of those available. We haven't really talked about whether we would sell them. The third parties can make their own decision whether they want to sell them, or maybe they will add it on as sort of a free benefit when you buy a current version of the game. "
Sounds like Nintendo is leaning towards having First-party N titles for free, lets see how it plays out though.
