That KNP competition was a terrible idea. KNP has aged so horribly over the past decade and change, and if you disagree then you're seeing the past through rose-colored glasses. It's needlessly frustrating to use software so obsolete.
As for new competition themes, Shab, I'll try to think of a few:
There's the niche genre themes that work pretty well-
*RTS
*Turn Based Strategy
*RPG
*Fighting
*Racing
There's the whacky restrictions kind-
*Game in the first person
*Limited color depth
*Vertical Scrolling
*3 button (Think Jungle Beat or King of Swing)
There's good ol' fashion THEMES-
*Game revolving around gravity
*----------------------dimensions
*----------------------plagues (Zombies, bitches)
*----------------------Religion
*----------------------Superpowers (This one I saw on KA, it's a good idea)
*----------------------Electricity and circuitry
*----------------------Industry/Factories
*----------------------Speed
*----------------------Military Tactics
*----------------------Fantasy Setting
*----------------------Psychic Abilities
@DG - Yeah, but that's kind of the point in the Knp compo, to see if you can do cool things with that ancient piece of...software. It's more like a personal challenge type deal.
I do like that first person idea though; if I use it would you want to be one of the judges?
RTS on the other hand I think might be a bit too difficult for the average TDCer (Vortex and I just discussed this actually) to me it seems like that would be better for a KM comp. I shudder to think of what some TDCers would interpret Real Time Strategy as.
Craps, I'm an old man!
