SO! I am getting a SNES for Christmas but i can only get 2 games with it so... i was wondering if you guys could help me pick
I've narrowed my options to any combo of 2 out of:
Mega Man x
A Link to the Past
Super Metroid
F-zero
Super Mario Kart
Super Castlevania 4
Super Metroid
Please help... I simply can NOT choose, though I was thinking Zelda and Metroid

If you put a million monkeys at a million keyboards, one of them will eventually write a Java program.
The rest of them will write Perl programs.
Well, since you listed Super Metriod twice, you must really like it. Mega Man X was also pretty decent, although you'll probably get more gameplay time out of Zelda. I was never really a big fan of F-zero, but that and Mario Kart would be a good choice if you plan on having friends over. I never really liked any of the linear Castlevanias... If you really can't make up your mind, I suggest testing them out on an emulator, I believe they are legal to download for a period of 24 hours, unless you own the game, and I know most of the popular titles are protected by the something or other, but don't quote me on any of that.

Megaman X 1 is probably the best out of the X series.
If you live in the US you can't pick up terranigma unfortunately . If I ultimately had to choose out of the list you posted I would get Link to the Past and Megaman X.
If you want to stray from that a bit, secret of mana and secret of evermore are excellent games as well.
Thanks for all your replies can't believe I forgot to add super Mario rpg to the list... My budget is 50 or 60 dollars for games -and as far as having friends over, this console is more for personal use, since I have an xbox for when friends are here. My personal favorite genres are shooter and rpg which is why I was thinking metroid and Zelda, but maybe mega man would be better than metroid? Also, I wasn't sure quite how much the games are so I assumed 2 or 3 games, but with 50-60 usd do you think I could get metroid, mega man, Zelda, and Mario rpg? Sorry about any misspelling or stuff, this is from my iPod...

Mario RPG is $30-$35+ used.
With $60 you could get
Zelda,Megaman, and Metroid or Zelda, Megaman, Mario RPG I believe.

So it's not supposed to be encouraged in the forums.
My bad, that's why I had the "don't quote me". I know that's how they used to work, I guess no one likes something they can't really regulate.

Ebay is awesome, but I'm not sure if you'll have to have a specific SNES version (if theres a difference between the PAL version etc).
I totally fogot about mana and evermore, although mana was pretty cheese, evermore topped the hell out of it. #3 wasn't so bad, but I don't think there's a non Japanese version.

"Soul Blazer"
I remember that game, I also remember not liking it at first because it looked pretty sappy.

"which games are the longest/ longest lasting?"
The multiplayer games definatly will have longevity, although I'd have to say any RPG would have the longest singleplay time, and since you're already planning on zelda, a second RPG might not be the best idea, unless you really love RPGs, in which case I would go with terranigma or evermore (ironically all of which are action RPGs...). Other than those, I would definatly consider Mario world, all stars, or DKC which offer a combination of the singleplayer time and multiplayer time, (of those three, world is probably my favorite).

I got my SNES Christmas 1992 , the year they was released in the UK. I still love my SNES such an excellent era of gaming, so many excellent games.
I love Mario Kart, it really is so much fun multiplayer. I would also consider one of the later All Stars cartridges which includes Super Mario Bros 1,2, and 3, lost levels and Super Mario World. The earlier cartridges like mine do not have Super Mario World so do watch out if you consider it!.
Zelda A link to the past is also a truely superb game .
Oh ensure you get your regions correct format. Not only will the game not fit in your console without a converter (these usually require two cartridges to bypass regional lockout if I remember) it will also run slow or fast...
