I've visited this site for a while now and I've noticed there are a lot of visitors here but the editors and admins here really aren't working to keep them. The game of the week has become forgotten, the official x-mas compo this year was a joke and was outdone by a mini-compo held on the forum, the downloads page is just becoming more and more cluttered, the forum is empty of features (no paging system, no post numbers, and shadowcaster deleted a bunch of members/old posts so it's impossible to know how many posts anyone has really made)... not to mention that new highball admins have started banning anyone who mentions said problems. *cough*buster*ahem* (Look at the topic titled "IDEA" to see what i'm talking about)
Now.. I may not be the best to undertake this job but I believe it's time for TDC to make a fresh start. I'm pretty good with ASP, I think I have a pretty good idea of what klikkers want in a daily click, and I would be happy to help. If you don't believe TDC is in trouble then just look up a bit. Even the top bar is cluttered with brocken links and sections that are nearly impossible to navigate.
What needs to be done:
The downloads page needs a complete overhaul, seperating games into groups, adding a search by first letter, addig special demo and beta sections, added tutorial section, allow users to choose games that are similar to the game they're adding upon submittion, make the submittion page a LOT more user friendly with suggested codes and linking tips.
The Links page also needs to allow users to search by letter, also there needs to be a "report broken link" button for every submittion that sends the submitter an automated dc mail informing them that the link is down. (this could also be added to the downloads page) only one broken link notice can be sent at a time per submittion to avoid mailbox overflow and the user is given a timelimit to comply (click a link inside the dcmail) implying that the link has been fixed.
Articles are fine but it would be nice if admins could go from article to article and mark certain ones as "editor approved" so that visitors can have a list of useful articles and won't have to wade through so much crap.
The forums need a bit more substance, more stats, maybe even a collection type feature.
Game of the Week should actually be updated and other trusted admins (other than shadowcaster) should be allowed to add them.
Basically what I'm saying it TDC should think about starting fresh while the visitors are still coming.. otherwise i'm sure the number of members joining a day will slowly decrease as the amount of work put in by editors decreases at a parralleled rate....

I would love to be an admin actually, If I were one I would never let this site get out of date(I promise to you right here). But I don't think that this post will change everything. If it does I would be a really good admin though.

it's always bitch, bitch, bitch, isn't it.
strangely enough, we admins do have lives... even circy.
these life things are a problem. you see, they mean we can't be here all the time, and this is where the problem lies. now to address the individual issues raised:
1) gotw - this is completely shadow's jurisdiction and there's nothing anyone else can do to update GOTW. so if shadowcaster misses a week, then it's not our fault.
2) the xmas compo - a joke you say? i'm sure the first prize winner will be laughing when s/he gets his copy of MMF.
3) downloads page - what do you expect? with nearly 15000 registered members and no quality control (so EVERYONE gets a look in, no matter how good or bad their game is) it's bound to get a bit cluttered. but the thumbs up/down system should point you in the right direction.
4) forums - no paging system? why do you want one? and post numbers will just encourage spamming. and i certainly haven't banned anyone for complaining, seeing as this is a democracy and all.
5) fresh start - no one's going to let you recode dc. it works fine as it is. maybe you want to code your own community site? go ahead, we're not stopping you.
and as for your suggestions, yes, all nice little tiny things, but your not suggesting anything major are you? many of your suggestings mean more work for us admins, the links thing could be abused.
you have a few good suggestions but it does mean more work. and work means time. which is something not many of us have.

PS : Busters not a real admin you putz, he was joking... read between the lines you fool.
Show me the power child,
I'd like to say,
That I'm down on my knees today,
Gives me the butterflies,
Gives me away,
'Til I'm up on my feet again,
I'm feeling outshined.
Your ideas for improving TDC are good, but you didn't have to be so aggressive about it.
The admins only have limited power - nothing to do with the way the site works fundamentally. Also, as Pete the Mattress said, we all have lives. At the moment, my excuse is that I'm on a very slow connection while at home for New Year - normal service will be resumed on the 10th.
Lay off the admins! Any of you ever try running a community site? I have, and it's tough as horse crap. They do a good ob, especially considering how many of thewm there are, and how many of us are here.
Remember, there's a little darkness in all of us... we just express it best.

its true that gotw has been going on for longer than a week (i think) but its not really a problem because the outcome will be the same as that (i hope) when shadowcaster gets around to doing it.(if he does)
"many of your suggestings mean more work for us admins"
Oh sorry, i wouldn't want to threaten you with the idea of work or anything.
I just offered my ideas and help in making the daily click better and get bashed for it. I wasn't saying that YOU should fix it, I would be very happy to do a large section (if not all) of the coding. I can't make my own community site because i don't have the money to pay for hosting and bandwidth... the daily click already has hosting and is in obvious need of help but apparently the current admins are to cocky to take a helping hand. I'm sorry if you are thretened by change, all i want to do is help.
Whatever, i'm sure this Pete Nattress has no idea of what level of help i am offering or even has the slightest concept of what ASP is.. Can I get a reply from a coheirent admin please? I know circy, clubsoft and shadow will know what i'm talking about.
Maybe you should e-mail Shadowcaster or somebody else who can actually do something about what you're suggesting. Posting in the forums is just inviting attacks from threatened admins and other assorted gap-toothed maggots. Like me.
