I just wrote to clickteam asking for help with a TGF glitch where:
The slider for how fast the path movement object moves doesn’t work. Neither does the Active object animation or when you shoot things.
The speeds cannot be changed!
Jeff Vance, the support, wrote back and told me that "Yes this is a known problem under XP with The Games Factory.
We have not yet identified the exact problem but its due to Microsoft changing an active X control that’s used in those functions."
This has been an ongoing problem for me for about two months!
Then he had the audacity to tell me that I should have downloaded a demo! I did download the damn demo, it stopped working after!
After paying $50 for a program that says it works (and did) work with XP, I'm not going to shell out another $99!
Anyone have some user made patches or ideas to help the problem since clickteam doesn’t feel like their customers matter very much?
Steve Zissou: Anne-Marie, do all the interns get Glocks?
1. MMF isnt $99, there is such thing called an Upgrade price so dont be a tight-ass
2. as Jeff said they havent found the bug, therfore theres nothing they can do
3. Dont do drugs
4. ...............all i hear is "BLAH BLAH BLAH", so shut yo mouth and stop complaining.
Whats that Crystal Clear? Want me to give more money to a company that doesnt support it's customers?
Jeff said they hadn't found the bug, thats true, but it's been going on long enough, they should have fixed it by now. In any other business, defective products would be recalled.
I feel for you. I had the same problem, and I MAY be able to help you. I had the 16bit version of TGF and when I got the 32 bit version of TGF, the problum went. You sound upgrade to MMF.
To get the discount I think you need to e-mail Clickteam with your TGF seriel number and they give you a discount code that you can use in the online shop to get a discount. I hope I have helped.
$50 is a *LOT* of money where I come from. I have to save up for months just to get something that costs $20. The only way I could afford MMF 1.5 in the first place is just coz I managed to convince some company to sponsor me. Took up almost half the budget money just to get it, thanks to the crappy economy.
Really, Clickteam does very little for its customers compared to most other companies out there. I mean, they cheated us with MMF 1.5 already, charging us about the same price as an 'upgrade' from TGF to MMF. What's worse is, they didn't fix the goddamn Animation editor! I mean, how f*cking hard is it to just tweak the damn Animation editor just so you don't have to click so many times to do something (like making a new direction).
It's bad enough that we have to pay almost full price for a mere patch, we'll probably have to pay about the same for MMF 2, which would be the only way to get our Animation editor fixed. Now if MMF 2 had plenty more options, I wouldn't mind... but somehow I doubt it.
Oh, and JD, you could try making a custom movement for it. It should be easy, though quite time consuming. I remember replacing the path movement with my own custom path back when I was a noob, so I don't think it should be much harder in TGF.
But even though they oppress us, Clickteam doesn't hurt it's customers half as much as most other companies do. At least they're really nice when it comes to tech support and don't charge us as much as other groups do. Really, have you seen the prices for well-used stuff like Authorware, Flash, 3D Studio Max, Maya, or Adobe Photoshop. MMF does far more than all of 'em for the amount of effort and Clickteam still charges less. One day, I'll have my revenge by inventing my own "quick programming" utility or maybe working for Clickteam .
Disclaimer: Any sarcasm in my posts will not be mentioned as that would ruin the purpose. It is assumed that the reader is intelligent enough to tell the difference between what is sarcasm and what is not.
TGF is old software JP... Clickteam no longer support it i.e. they don't release upgrades or patches for it anymore.
To upgrade send a mail to Jeff with your details and he'll email you a code to use when you buy MMF.
Don't get angry, you have to remember that TGF was released in '96 (I think) thats 8 years ago. You can't expect them to keep release patches so it'll work on all the new OS, its just not commercially viable.
I work in a video store, but I don't just plug the new releases. I still support the older films as well as the new, and if say, a DVD doesn't work I either replace it or give back their money. I honestly don't know what more Clickteam could have done in this situation but I don't agree with their "older products don't get no luvin'" policy.
I agree with Muz about the whole animation editor thing, although I do believe that Admins are required to whole-heartedly support Clickteam no matter what (I got in trouble for not doing so before I got booted from Admin-ville). But still... FIGHT THE POWER!!!
End communication.
Show me the power child,
I'd like to say,
That I'm down on my knees today,
Gives me the butterflies,
Gives me away,
'Til I'm up on my feet again,
I'm feeling outshined.
Old dvd's are still based on the same technology, but you are right there is a lotta CT lovin' that goes on round here... but I make em right on this one though
Are you sure you installed the 32-bit version of TGF? I thought this problem only occurred if you installed 16-bit TGF on Windows XP, and 16-bit TGF is only for Windows 3.1
Yeah, TGF was made around the time of Windows 3.1, that's how old it is. Since Windows XP didn't exist when they wrote TGF, it's a good thing that most of TGF *does* work. Since Clickteam are very small and struggling to stay afloat, they simply can't afford to spend time on old products. Even Microsoft wouldn't make Windows 3.12
Hey Ashman, if what you said is true, how come you didn't give my money back when "Ye Olde Porne" wouldn't work (actually the dvd was fine, but knights in scanty armour just don't work for me).
Hey JP, Clickteam supports their customers way more than any company I've seen. At no point have they had someone from the team tell them to stop being so open and friendly about things. You *YOU* bought a copy of an old *OLD* piece of software rather than go with the latest technology. *OLD* software comes with *OLD* bugs and the company that made it will not go back to *OLD* software that they have since outdated and fix them. No, they're going to stick with today. The reason why they still sell TGF is because a lot of people will not move to MMF because they simply won't adapt to the new interface. (And they just like living with free unlimited demos of old stuff)
If you search through Clickteam's message boards you will find this said time and time again - Clickteam will not go back to The Games Factory and fix up the bugs in that or otherwise create new patches for it. They will only cater to Jamagic, MMF, and their Patch/Install makers. You will find this holds true with every other software company out there.
In my opinion they really should stop selling TGF totally. If a company doesn't offer support for an old product anymore, then they should stop selling it.

CT's customer support is good. i get responses within a day or even less whenever i need something, and, furthermore, they actively participate on their own message boards, which is something few companies do.
Chamzel, as far as I'm concerned, It's the same principal as buying a used car. If they are still selling the goddamned software and advertising it for XP, it should work!
They have my $50 dollars already, I payed for their goddamned tech support, the $50 doesnt just go nowhere, it sould go to making the patch for the damn prog.
I didn't give them $50 because I like their company, I want TGF. My money is just as good as anyone elses, I want them to fix TGF.
Steve Zissou: Anne-Marie, do all the interns get Glocks?
I dunno, when you buy a used car you don't quite know what you're getting yourself into. So you test run it, just like you do when you download a demo of a program. If you like it you buy it, just like you did with TGF rather than save up some more money for MMF or that newer car. Now, with your TGF glitch compared to a used car, you can buy that used car and drive it home and the next day have it completely break down. Guess what now? You own the car, but it's dead or otherwise completely screwed up. You're going to have to fork out even more money to fix it than it would to have bought the later/latest model.
So you're saying I should give more money to a company that already scammed me? WTF? Why do you follow Clickteam so blindly? Why do you have product loyalty to a company that doesn’t treat it's customers equally? I AM A CUSTOMER, I DON'T JUST GIVE OUT MY HARD EARNED CASH FOR NO REASON.
The reason the warranty analogy doesn't work here is because TGF is a new car. I bought it direct from the website.
Stop being such a stuck up MMF user. I didn't ask for shit, I asked if anyone could help with the problem.
Steve Zissou: Anne-Marie, do all the interns get Glocks?
>>Why do you follow Clickteam so blindly? Why do you have product loyalty to a company that doesn’t treat it's customers equally?
I must smile and become a smart ass at this comment and say...
Because they've never treated me that way, and most likely never will because I'm very confident in my abilities in creating things as well as solving, fixing, and working around problems. I've talked with Clickteam a lot in message boards, emails, chat rooms, and private messages and they're not grumpy mean old men. TGF is not a new car, it is an old car with a shiney wax job and fresh car smell. If it was really a new car you would not be faced with such old tech problems. Let's face it, JP. This is a fight you're not going to win. In fact, if you discussed the problem with people on the Clickteam boards and other Click sites you may find a work around your problem that will give you the same effect. Now let's not get too roudy about things. I'm not going to go up to Jasc and complain that my Paint Shop Pro program is buggy either when I'm about 3-4 versions behind.
JP, if you want a used car analogy, try this realistic view:
You test-drived the car. The car works, but the lights on the dashboard don't work. You buy the car under the condition that it's sold 'as-is', and that it can't be returned. You complain AFTERWARDS because the lights on the dashboard don't work.
Now, if what you say that the DEMO worked but the REGISTERED version doesn't, then it's something you've done. There's no difference between the two, except the registered version has no time limit and can build games. That's all.
I got mmf offa ebay for 20 or 30 dollars. I like using CnC but after I got my new computer with XP I had the very same problem with that. I emailed clickteam 4 or 5 times and they never replied. I am using game factory now and it works fine as far as guages and stuff but I dont like it, I just cant get use to mmf enough to wanna use it. The problem though is very annoying and clickteam doesnt like to help people. When they do reply usually they say you dont provide enough info even though you couldnt explain it any better and if you try explain it better they just wont reply.
It's unfortunate that everyone who choses to stick with old technology and refuses to move on will eventually run into a limitation or otherwise problem. It's like... like... those movies where it's in the future where people are going around using high tech weaponry and laser guns, but that one cop choses to continue using his old six shooter pea pistol!
MMF vs. TGF has already been discussed dozens of times... and MMF always ends up as the winner. Why?
-26 Alterable Values
-A LOT more extensions, and new ones come out every couple of weeks
-The ability to use ActiveX
-+200 number of animations
-Stronger (semi-transparencies at run-time, etc.)
-It's still supported!
Basically, read Tigerwork's article.
And the PRO version of TGF is definitely not worth it. You probably won't sell your TGF games, and if you do, you'll probably make very little profit.
pro has less bugs, and not that ugly-as-sin ending splash screen, You'd think after you buy their product, they'd give you the power to have release your game without having clickteam written all over it.
"Everytime you use Kazaa, a metallica band member dies a little."
Quote Jonathon Smeby.
I've never seen some1 use Active x
Animations amount easily fixed (for clickteam if they supported)
Alterable values.. u got extensions for this
And you forgot AGAIN how horrible the mmf gui is :] wich counts for 100 pros of mmf
cuz no good gui means stress
I'm new at this board, but im certainly not new at clicking, i think i had knp + cnc + tgf + mmf before you were born, and i don't care what impression you get from me, go keep whining about mmf, i bet you cant even create any decent thing in it anyway.
OH GOD WHAT DO I SEE ON YOUR SITE!!
Dragon ball z, sigh...
Ok, in that last post you just lost all credibility. MMF has a great GUI, it's just not as user friendly as TGF's. You have to re-learn where everything is, in effect. If you don't want to learn(like me for a year ) then you're screwed. It's a much more powerful product. Recently I've had to re-create some old TGF apps in MMF to get them to work on win2K and winXP. I'm surprised TGF works at all on those operating systems.
1. ActiveX is very useful. The problem lies in packing up the ActiveX object with the program/game itself so that others may use it.
2. There's no problem with the programs below MMF and animations. I just don't think they had in mind the idea of having more than 4 user animations until MMF.
3. Of course. Just need to make those extensions global, or otherwise make them load off an INI file or external source.
4. Horrible interface? I never had a problem with it before. People who say the interface is horrible only fail in the ability to adapt to new things. The only thing that stresses those people are the things they lack in.
5. I bet you wish that were true. I don't see what that has to do with anything about when who got what, but you need to read the terms of usage here linked at the bottom of the root of the boards. We don't need your attitude here.
6. Who's site? My site? I don't see any Dragon Ball Z. What a lame method of taunting, using such ignorant swings against the likes of me. You need to educate yourself a little more before making comments about my site and art. But I'm glad you enjoyed the story.
That all said, it would do us all a favor if you piped down your attitude. I hope the admins are paying you mind.
This debate and arguement over Clickteam and their support over TGF has long since passed and is over. I think it is about time the admins close the issue before it expands any further. Fleshy and JP, if you have any issues with me or have a general jerkish idiotic attitude, please present it to me through PMs and I'll deal with you both in private without burning up the boards.
Won't see me whine about MMF. Just some things I haven't figured out how to work around or work out. Those aren't MMF's problems, those are my own limitations that I need to break.
If the admins would excuse my language in this sentence: Fleshy, you're an arrogant, cocky, hypocritical prick that deserves to be banned for your arrogance and ignorance. I believe this article sums it up the best of why MMF 1.5 is better than TGF: http://www.create-games.com/article.asp?id=109 (Oh, and you didn't say anything about the extra extensions...)
That being said, I shall now try to answer JP's problem.
From my experience with TGF, you might want to re-install it, but you probably have. The file itself might be corrupted (if you've kept using the same one), which occurs frequentyl in TGF.
I tried to go under settings and run TGF with the win98 compatability, I was all excited, but alas, no such luck.
Chamzel, lets reconcile already, you were pretty arrogant and cocky, an attitude many MMFers take, but shit man, TDC should be uniting us under a coomon goal instead of seperating us into classes.
Anyone know when MMF2 comes out?
Steve Zissou: Anne-Marie, do all the interns get Glocks?
I think the daily click is not a bad company.. it´s just directed to really young ppl.. kids if you may. So don´t expect a really dedicated ADULT treatment.
Sorry about my first post JP, i was a bit Sunburnt and not the happiest person .
-----------------
$50 is easy to save up, theres so so many things you can do, Wash a neighbours car, mow lawn e.t.c it may seem like alot of money for some but its not beyond impossible for everyone theres always something you can do to earn a buck or two .
If you dont want to save up the money, then youre pretty much screwed with what you want fixed, Clickteam said in there disclaimer they dont support it anymore.
Also Clickteam DO support there User base very much so, i emailed CT about a bug i was having with a problem in one of there extensions, in the next Build of MMF this extension was updated and added a new feature that fixed my problem completely.
a very good point stated was i think "chamzel" said about Jasc and old paintshop versions, if you emailed them asking to fix a bug in an old version of Paintshop i HIGHLY doubt they would fix this.
I tried tgf 1.06 non pro and some animation sliders didnt work as well as others
i tried tgf pro 1.06 pro and then the sliders did work.
(windows xp, tested on 5 different pc's, my imagination must be great )

how is their customer support terrible? they clearly say on their website they no longer provide help for TGF. JP was lucky enough to get a response to his initial email, for christ's sake, they were not under any obligation to send him one.
one of the reasons they dont support it is because they made alot better vrsion of it (MMF), i mean why fix the problem in the old(TGF) if the new(MMF) already has it fixed?
That's not terrible customer support. If you don't read the disclaimers they show you before you buy the product, it's your own fault for being lazy. They state clearly that they don't support the product. How exactly can you complain about it?
Anyways, you'd be hard pressed to find another company where the members are as active in the community as Clickteam is.
If people put in a 'no refunds' label in tiny words over some program which had great support and ratings, and then the program doesn't work, I'd call it a scam. I see how JP has every right to be pissed off.
Disclaimer: Any sarcasm in my posts will not be mentioned as that would ruin the purpose. It is assumed that the reader is intelligent enough to tell the difference between what is sarcasm and what is not.
Right, but I'd be whining too if my brand new car had a hole in its dashboard and the car salesman told me to get a new one.
Disclaimer: Any sarcasm in my posts will not be mentioned as that would ruin the purpose. It is assumed that the reader is intelligent enough to tell the difference between what is sarcasm and what is not.
If the customer support people take the time to reply to someone about the product, they could at least be helpful. I have emailed clickteam about mmf before too and have never got help. They just act like the question you asked is stupid and to explain it better, and when you do you dont hear from them again. That is how it has been for me every time. Most customer support services are the same, I have gone through the same thing sending support questions to ebay and dell as well. Some people just dont care.
The reason why they do all this has been explained again and again in this thread.
1. TGF is old. They do not support technical program bug reports for it. Only in MMF.
2. People still want TGF because there are some people who cannot (for some reason) figure out how to use MMF's interface (Read: They don't want to spend the time to study it and get used to it). Why stop selling a product that people still want to buy, even though you've moved on? It's profit. It's the customer's fault for buying it, and especially more so the customer's fault for buying it if their reason to buy it is "Well I can't stand MMF's interface..." or the like.
3. TGF IS OLD! TGF is not a new car. It is a used car (or old car model) with bugs, kinks, and safety issues that new car models do not have!
4. TGF IS OLD TECHNOLOGY! IT IS AN OLD PROGRAM! IT IS NOT SOMETHING BRAND NEW!
5. OLD PROGRAM! OLD BUGS! NEW PROGRAM! NEW FIXES TO OLD BUGS! MMF >>> TGF!
7. Through buying even shoes I have come to learn... A $20 pair of shoes doesn't last as long nor feels as good at the ones I bought later for $80. Not to mention the $20 pair of shoes I bought for work only lasted a couple months, where as the $80 pair of shoes have lasted me almost a full year now so far. Understand that? Pay more, expect more. Pay less, expect less.
hey stupid, I was saying since they took the time to reply, if they dont provide support anymore they can either just not reply, or say that they do not support it anymore in the email, besides trying to get help or upgrades or something most people dont spend alot of time at the clickteam site so they might not see where it says they dont provide support on it anymore. There is no point in them replying without giving any help and pretty much telling jp its his own fault for buying a product that has problems.
First off, I don't want a flame war, lets end this topic.
Secondly, I'm glad some people have morals and decency. It's only decent to sell products that work, only right to support your customers. Whatever happened to "The customer is always right"? Buyer Beware is a term coined by the greedy. I am kind of sad that I am going to have to end up giving them more money, but it will come back to me.
I am also sad that I have extended my hand to Chamzel, only to have it brushed away.
I just think it right that clickteam should still support their customers, even if it is an older product.
Steve Zissou: Anne-Marie, do all the interns get Glocks?
Anne-Marie: No, they have to share one.
