Well it looks like we wont be seeing Edwin anymore. I despise macs, I have to use them every day at the media class, the only thing good about them is the looks. Video editing is NOT any faster on the macs. Why the fuck would you spend $2199 on a 1.8ghz processor? You cant honestly tell me that your going to spend the same amount on a computer with 1.8 ghz less than a PC? Not to mention that you get a thousand less options in software and hardware. It just defies all common sense, but I don't care, because the price you pay for buying a mac is owning one.

Despite my girlfriend trying to teach me how to use hers, I can't get used to Macs at all. The biggest problem I have is that Ctrl-C is not "copy" but instead "delete everything I've selected and make it unrecoverable" - which is something that I discovered to my cost!
Apparently the Mac uses its processor more efficiently, though, so just the clock speed of the processor alone isn't really a good comparison. At least, so I've been told.
Right, mac architecture is quite different, and mac CPUs have pretty huge FSBs AFAIK. Nowhere near big enough to be worth an extra 4200 shiny coins though.
Mac processors also have many more transistors than Intel chips, so things like floating point calculation is several times faster. Just look at the performance of SETI on Mac and PC with the same speed processor.
I once saw a TV show where they actually compared equivelent powered Macs and PCs in different ways, and the whole 'Macs are better for video editing and Photoshop' was proved to be bollocks, in fact the Mac took 30 seconds to apply a Photoshop filter that the PC took 5 seconds to do. The only field the Mac won in was setup time.
I used to use Macs at college and grew to hate them with a massive passion. Sure they look nice, but that's all they're good at. What's the point in owning a computer what a large percentage of software doesn't run on, just for looks?
They replaced all the Linux machines in our computer science lab with Macs. They look like lamps. And someone on the first day - presumably an ex-subhonours student - had scrawled on the board "Ha ha! You have to use Macs!"

"Not to mention the fact that Window's is so much easyer to get around. (Might just be because Windows was the first system I actually attapted too though.)"
actually, macs were the first PCs to use a GUI like the ones we're used to today. they nicked some of their ideas for it from Xerox.
It's retarded that schools buy macs, why would you want to teach kids on a computer that has less than 3% of the market share? You need windows skills for the workplace, no one uses macs.
