This is a very short Flash game that serves best as an example for the competition idea that 8 Bit Battle Cat and I have recently discussed in the forums. It took me a little less than 3 hours to make.

Move the Manic Sword Man around in the bookshop with the ARROW KEYS, and destroy as many of the poorly-translated books as you can.

This is a sort of homage to the old television show "News Radio," which my partner holds in great esteem.

Some sounds from the free bfxr sound application; background music from MMF2, and voice samples from me using a crappy dictaphone recorder. Title from the Video Game Name Generator.

If anyone is interested in the source for this game, I can make it available. Just ask. You can also send me an e-mail via clicking on the e-mail address on the closing screen of the game.

Enjoy!

Not bad, just hampered by its repetitive gameplay and lack of real challenge. Loved the graphics and the screaming, weirdly, though it wasn't enough for me. I'd be interested in seeing some more variety using the core gameplay idea though

There's tons to be done with an idea like this one. For a three-hour game though, it's not a terrible end product.

Later levels would likely include obstacles and projectiles to avoid, collecting or shredding things in sequence, powerups, routes to follow to complete a level, area control a la Domination in Unreal Tournament, and so on. Possibilities are only limited by the developer's patience.
