I want to buy a Wii just for this game and Metroid
They both look awesome - the art in Metroid is amazing, and the graphics in Mario Galaxy are great too. Metroid got some really good reviews too.
The new Mario doesn't excite me at all actually. With the jumping from planet to planet, and being in space and all. It looks... kinda vague to me. I was quite dissapointed when I found how the new Mario would be (being Super Mario Galaxy that is). I guess I'm one of the few people who feel like that >_>
Never liked the Metroid series for some reason. But I am looking forward to SSB and Mario Kart.
Mazza Galaxy looks ace, yes. But don't get me wrong. I think a lot of people are still waiting for a 3D Mario World/Mario 3 game.
Well, I know I am. If they add a few huge worlds to explore in Galaxy it'll make me happy. Hope the majority isn't just very small planets. Seen some nice videos though
Tell 'em Babs is 'ere...

I'm not looking forward to any Mario game anymore. If a good one is introduced on a console I have, that's fine, but that's where my enthousiasm for Mario stops.
I have a Wii aswell and I'm not to excited about the Mario game. It looks really messy with having to jump from planet to planet, like you don't know where to go and where you are. Hopefully they've solved that in a good way.
Well, seeing as its you on a spaceship for training when suddenly it gets attacked and boarded by space aliens who happen to carry giant energy shields with them, and board the ship via giant pods that connect and blast through the sides, and are then attempting to blow up the defenses so they can launch an attack on the ground below, yes, they had to be at least *inspired* by halo.
Don't forget that some of the space pirates wear giant jet packs while dual wielding guns, and at one point you get blown out in space while wearing a giant suit of powered armor.
Seriously, saying one FPS is ripping off another FPS is pretty much pointless now, because the one that's being "ripped off" undoubtably ripped it off from some other place.
I love the Prime 3 controls. Ninty didn't let me down with them; and I think they've just shown that you CAN make a good controlling FPS on the Wii as long as your team isn't full of jackasses. It's about damned time too. I've been drooling over the FPS posibilities of the Wii since they first announced that controller. (No clue what to make of the Zapper though, they claim it's for FPS games, but I don't see it happening; at least not with that thing.)
Yeah yeah, it's an FPA, we've been through this before. Doesn't matter; it's far from my point. Still has perfect FPS controls. Better than any "true" FPS on the Wii. Still making me Drool. I want me some Timesplitters love now please.
I've heard it has fantastic controls. A friend of on another forum is notorious for hating console FPS games. The guy has fallen in love with Prime 3. Bit crappy that we have to wait another 2 months, but ah well! I hope devs take note of Prime 3 and FPS can thrive on the Wii.
The only problem I've had is the lack of ergonomics on the Remote. While playing Prime3 I grip that thing pretty hard, and because it's perfectly straight, it's starting to make my wrist ache a bit.
Mario Strikers Charged Football did that for me. I'd only play for 10 minutes and my hands would ache, mostly cuz it's so stressful when you're playing someone as good as you. Haha. That game really gets me involved
I'm worried about Halo 3, since 2 was a bit crap I'm not much excited. 4 player co-op rings my bell though. Just hope they get the game more like Halo 1, which is 1/4 reasons why I bought an Xbox.
Since Rare went to Microsoft, its been shoveling crap onto dvds. Don't get your hopes up.
Rare put out two games on the original Xbox, Grabbed by the Ghoulies and Conker: Live and Reloaded. The former game didn't do too well, while the later received pretty good reviews.
Rare's 360 games Kameo, Perfect Dark Zero and Viva Pinăta were all very well received.

In between bouts of spouting off how awesome they were. They were awesome back in the NES days. Killer Instinct was the only decent game they made in the 16-bit generation. DKC is about the definition of generic.
Blast Corps was fun. Goldeneye and PD were meh. They spent their GC days remaking Zelda in many a flawed fashion.
Nintendo definately got the good end of that Rare deal.
Perfect Dark Zero was a piece of trash. I'm concerned that they're still aparently making Killer Instinct 3, 2 and Gold left a horrible taste in my mouth; and my sucky game sense is already tingling in regards to KI3.

When DKC was first displayed, people thought it was a 64-bit game. I don't think it's a bad game, but at its release a lot of it's focus was on the graphics. DKC2 improved a lot on the game. Shab are you talking about the first game or the whole series?
Shab, what's your opinion on Banjo-Kazooie? Diss it and I'll have to call you unpleasant things

Nintendo definately lost Rare at the right time. That star fox game blew chunks, and perfect dark zero blew even more chunks, which was a feat considering how good #1 was.
Perfect Dark Zero was utter crap. Unmemorable, too short. They lost that Rare feeling. Kameo was equally poor. I already have Animal Crossing and don't know/care what a pinata is so I didn't bother much with Viva Pinata.
Ever since Jet Force Gemini it's just been a slippy slope for them.
DKC? The whole shebang. It had gameplay from 85 and pretty graphics; which absolutely blinded everyone to the fact that there wasn't a whole lot special about the game. I'm not saying it was horrible; but it wasn't very good.
Banjo? No clue, I'd given up on Rare at that point and never played it; but considering it seemed like Mario64.5, I probably wouldn't have enjoyed it. I didn't like Mario64 all that much.
I had a micro machines for the Mega Drive. It had a track editor in it. I played that gaem to hell. I was so pleased when I FINALLY got it.
... But speaking of Mario Galaxy... When EXACTLY is it out? I bought the official ninty mag and it has two different release dates for it. Next year at the start of the mag and then this november a bit further on. :S
You can thank the 32-bit Generation for the lack of pack in games. Both the N64 and PS1 launched with no pack ins, and it seems to be the standard. Most retailers seem to make their own "pack-in" deals anyway.

Yeah, but Super Mario 64 was still a launch game for N64, even if it wasn't packed in by default.

The Sega Master System had a secret game programmed into the console. Talk about packin.

Doesn't play much like SM64 at all. Also, more puzzles are involved sometimes. You might want to try playing it for a while on an emulator.
Geez I just read some PS3 reviews while searching for Mario's release date (nov 12 US, unknown for europe), and WOW. I actually feel really bad for the people that bought PS3's now (more then I did before); it seems both Lair and Heavenly Sword, 2 of *their* "big three" to oppose nintendos "big three" and microsofts "really frikkin big one", have utterly crashed and burned. Lair turned out to be a dung heap and heavenly sword was depressingly mediocre. Thats a bummer :/ I was almost looking forward to playing those at friends places, at least once.

I assume microsoft's "really frikkin big one" is Halo 3. What are Nintendo's and Sony's "big three"? I suppose Super Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime are two of them for Nintendo.

Yes, when I threw out the playstation fanboy magazines that gave the outlier reviews, the average score for heavenly sword was a 7 or 7.5 /10, and lair about 5. But thats a major flop for something thats supposed to compete with zelda/metroid/mario/super smash bros/halo3. And Lair couldn't have been much worse.
Remote Play sounds like the dogs bollocks. I am very impressed at that, just a shame I'd never be able to use it on my 512kbps connection and lack of wifi in places this would be great for (buses and the like).
Nintendo's big 3 (or could it be 4 now?) are Galaxy, Prime 3, Smash Bros and Mario Kart.
I suppose the 360 also has that BioShock. I don't like it much but the world seems to have gone ape for it.

I tend not to be influenced by reviews at all. I try to find a demo, a playthrough movie, or just the game's name/theme/creator and I'll almost always buy a good game.

They were awesome in the 8bit days when they were called 'Ultimate' ive actually got one of their old games on the Amstrad cpc. And isometric adventure/puzzler called Knightlore.
They made loads of isometric games on the ZX Spectrum.

The Master system 1 had a game built into the bios, some maze game featuring a snail i think.
The Master system 2 had a game built in. Usually Sonic 1 or Alex kidd in miracle world.
Actually later versions of the Master System 1 had games built in too. Hang On, Hang On/Safari Hunt, Missile Defense 3D and Alex Kidd in Miracle World all appeared as built-in games on the first SMS. All versions of the Master System 2 has a built in game, either Alex Kidd in Miracle World, Sonic 1 or Lion King.
To make thing more confusing, the brazilian Master System 2 uses the Master System 1 design with a Master System 2 bios, while their Master System 3 is the equivelent of the rest of the world's Master System 2.

I agree with you enitrly, Phred. I bought sonic the hedgehog on the VC but wish I had gotten the XBLA version for the achievements and online score board. Also you can adjust the screen size. Isn't the XBLA one cheaper, too?

Yes, the XBLA versions actually has effort put into them. The VC games are just bare-bones emulations.
I'm waiting for the Fatal Fury and King of Fighter's Games to hit the VC. Of course, I have no clue how big these are going to be; I'd imagine pretty hefty though (MB wise).

Well if it's the from the Neogeo arcade romboard version probably not that big.
I think the ROMs were 56 megabytes. Not sure about how large the emulator would be though. I don't think it would add considerably to the filesize though. Personally I'd like to see NiGHTs on Virtual Console or XBLA, or as a bonus game with the Wii NiGHTs game.

I think the real question is an emulated SegaCD good enough to decompress them. I don't think they change anything code wise with the VC titles do they? Only the art resources (Like in wave race)

I'm thinking some kind of partial emulation, where the video playback would be handled natively by the Wii.
Of course, that's probably more than Nintendo is willing to bother with though, they just want quick and dirty ports...
