Touchwood my Xbox 360 has been fine, not that I really use it now mind. Perhaps the colder weather in the UK helps

"After multiple red rings and fixes (real fixes, not the blanket trick) I have gotten sick of this thing breaking down on me. So i took it outside, filled it with news paper and set it on fire. After it finished burning i smashed it with a sledge hammer for a bit."
I'm sorry to hear that, but it WAS a refurbished console. The RROD is what one would expect.
I strongly suggest giving Microsoft a second chance, the Xbox 360 S has no RROD.

Yeah, I'm going to buy a brand new xbox eventually, but my money is tied up at the moment. I don't blame microsoft at all for what happened, it was after all, refurbished.

I just hope you did not breathe in any of the fumes. Plastic fumes are very very toxic, not to mention some of the other nasties that are used in electronic goods.

It still does. It just doesn't actually display the RROD anymore. It's like treating syphilis by covering the lesions with clothing. The problem still exists, it's just covering up the symptoms.
Also, why is this thread still going? It should have ended like 31 posts ago.

Actually, the Xbox S is immune the RROD because it has heat sensors which shut down the xbox upon detecting too much heat.
Also, the Xbox S cooling system is simply brilliant. No longer is the GPU trapped under the disc drive, as the GPU and CPU are merged and have one large fan overhead.
Making the system quieter and far cooler.
It is too bad people such as "PhizzyPhan" and "aphant" see the need to spread false news in order to taint the 360's reputation.

The 360 has a history of new models "fixing the issue", only to have it break again, so forgive me for my lack of faith

I think the damage has already been done. It's pretty hard to get rid of something as infamous as RROD even if the newer revision models were totally invincible. (The reputation, not the actual fault)

Having one large fan isn't going to do anything. The way the fan is oriented is important, and the way it's oriented in the Slim makes for poor air flow, and thus not good for cooling. It's pushing air out 90° away from the direction fresh air comes in.
The new slim models are still having hardware failures due to heat and cooling issues. It's not misinformation if it's true.

Go buy an Xbox 360 S, have it break on you through normal use, then come here. Otherwise, unless you can cite your claims with enough proof and unbias reports... I don't have reason to believe you. From what I've read, the new Xbox 360 Slim does address the General Hardware Failure issue.
Sorry, it had to be said. I mean no disrespect to you, but support your claims if you're going to try to deface a console.
