Playing Assassin's Creed 2 on 360 or PS3: Buy the game, insert the disc, play it.
Playing Assassin's Creed 2 on PC: Buy the game, register an account on UbiSoft's website, hope the authentication server doesn't go down while you're playing or you'll get kicked out of the game.
Not to mention games like Uncharted 2, Halo 3 and Super Mario Galaxy that are console only.
It's been in my experience that for the most part, PC ports look a lot better and thats reason enough for me to prefer PC. They also generally have better support, more content, and that content is also generally free. Look at Team Fortress 2 and Portal.
It really depends upon the game and the publisher. If Valve release a multi-platform game then I'll buy it for PC. If UbiSoft do, then I'll buy it for console (mainly because of their DRM methods).
Plus there are lots of games on consoles which aren't on PC which are more appealing to people. FIFA 10 for example is pretty terrible on the PC compared to the console versions. There really aren't that many PC exclusive games which would warrant just owning a PC for gaming - but the whole PC vs Console debate is stupid anyway, because everyone owns a PC and can buy games for a PC if they like.

You forget that not every PC is created equal.
- Ok, you must admit that was the most creative cussing this site have ever seen -

Some of us like to put our money to good use.
Unfortunately not all of us have the money to waste on fancy graphics cards and CPUs
But flava, a good graphics card costs about as much as a good console. A lot less even if you are willing to go with the previous generation which usually isn't that much worse.
And you don't need a fancy cpu, they don't really matter as much as the gpu. A basic core2 will run most games just fine.

Unless you have a laptop

Exactly.
$150 video card which plays everything a $300 console plays...

But it doesn't play everything a console plays..
Mario, Halo .etc .etc
That was not the point I was countering. Trust me, the only reason I even have a Wii, PS3, and Xbox 360 is for the exclusives. I know this.

Again, the point I'm trying to make is that a PC vs Console debate is stupid. The games differ, the systems differ, the controls differ - they're pretty much two completely different platforms which do different things.
It seems to me like you're saying the PC is the best platform for gaming - and the other point I'm making is that it does do some things better than consoles, but consoles also do things better than the PC. There is no "best" platform between consoles and PCs. Heck there isn't even a "best" platform between PS3, 360 and Wii - it's all personal preference, which is why I hate these discussions (even though I can't help but take a part in them!!)
PC gaming is nowhere near as good as it was beck i the day (circa 1990 - 2005), which i think is a crying shame! As much as i love my consoles, and i really do, if i could run the same game as well on a PC as i could on a console, i'd buy the PC version almost every time. I just prefer the extra depth most PC conversions have over their console brothers, as well as the mouse/keyboard interface.
I just wish there were more games out on the PC like there used to be!
