I wouldn't say Steam made everything better. I'd say Steam saved PC when all the other companies decided they made more money feeding games to the very jerks in school who made fun of us 2 years prior, for being so much into electronics. You know, the ones who didn't even know what a GB was until MP3 players took off, and probably still don't know what it means, only that they want more because it's a bigger number. Yeah, those guys.
Developers decided we were a niche and wanted to appeal to a more general audience. That's why instead of getting an even more complex sim city 5, we got sim society
OH GOD YES... SOCIETIES WAS A FAILURE OF THE HIGHEST DEGREE. I was so disappointed. Sim City 4 was so magnificent and Sim City Societies was enough to make a dedicated fan commit suicide.
Same goes for when EA decided to bend their will across Spore. Don't get me wrong, it's a fun game... but Will Wright intended for a much more in depth experience and none of his idea's seemed overly enthusiastic. They all seemed very realistic, but they weren't in the realm of casual gaming so EA was like "No, lets simplify it and make it cartoony. Beautiful, now release it with the most annoying DRM security."

Pure coincidence, though i disagree about Steam making it better than the 1990's scene. Back then, PC was streets ahead of anything consoles could do, and the new game release schedule was far more packed with AAA titles than it is now.
I think the nice thing of the old days was that there was a big difference between a PC and a console. Now 2 of the 3 consoles are basically PC's stripped from most functions. I don't see a big difference between the gfx of either PC, Xbox360 or PS3.
Yeah, most games look the same on PC, PS3 and 360.
I'd say Uncharted 1&2 are the most graphically impressive games I've seen, but that's probably because of the work put into the game and not because of the hardware they run on.
- Ok, you must admit that was the most creative cussing this site have ever seen -

Yes, totally agree. And it almost feels like sometimes they're all trying to imitate what each other was good at, e.g. with consoles now being home of FPS like the PC was 10 years ago.
I can barely control the Wii interface after over a year... theres no way in hell I'd ever be able to play a FPS on it even remotely as accurate as on Xbox 360.. much less a PC.
